- Annoyed| 2 replies714-462-8597 called cell 24 Feb 2020 at 11:13am and "Megan" left VM re: calling another number 877-283-4408 to discuss a student loan forgiveness program. But call back soon before the pre-requirement changes. Student loan robocalls are a twist on loan scams with a specific focus on student debt. This is a lucrative market for scammers, as student loans may be very large. Sometimes these scammers are just after your personal information. However, scammers may also offer payment reduction or debt forgiveness plans -- for a small fee, of course. Younger people are often victimized by these scammers. Young adults, with crushing student debt, often cannot resist the temptation of reduced payments or debt forgiveness. Be suspicious of any student loan offer received over the phone. Never make a payment to a student loan or debt relief organization that called you unsolicited.

- BirdMegan call me twice and left a vm to call back. I had just sent paperwork to my actual loan servicer and I assumed it was them calling me back. When I did call back, another gentlemen answered and stated that Megan was with another student after placing me on a brief hold. The first red flag was the hold silence and the little beep that indicates a robocall. I use to work in collections so I'm pretty familiar with this sound and what usually follows (BS). Anyway, the next red flag upon his return was when he asked me if I was currently making payments or had I fallen behind.... I had already discussed at length with my loan servicer about my loans and once again had already begun the real process. Clearly this person did not have that information already.... to buy time while I began to search the call back number (which is what I should have done to begin with), I provided the individual with the amount I made last year and my email but as soon as he asked for my SS#, I put him on infinite hold as I came across the scam warnings. (Thank goodness!!) I immediately ended the phone call and began blocking the the previous numbers that were used. Come to think of it, no company name was provided, at all.....which is also another red flag. I just recently updated my phone information with my loan servicer and didn't get these calls until now. Usually to avoid these scam calls, I do not give ANY servicer a cell phone or direct line. Any correspondence is done via email or when I call into the loan servicer. My suggestion for others would be to do the same within anytime you are inputing information on the internet even if it seems secure. You are liable to receive phone calls that are scams, related to whatever platform you submit your information to.
