Got this call really early in the morning (not yet awake).  They started in with their "Network Protection" and I knew right away what it was.  I simply said, "You guys are scams.  I am reporting your number to authorities," and hung up.

    Fell for scam
Continue to get these calls from 877-283-8358........trouble is I fell for it and thought it was someone else and let them have access to my computer... when I didn't want to pay them for them to fix what they said was wrong,  they hacked up somehow my computer and it crashed... He swore at me and said " You will never be able to use this computer again!"  He was right and I had to buy a new computer....I could have had it fixed for 250.00 or buy a new one and I choose to buy a new one as mine was 8 years old.. He was so nasty I was in shock... but they still call after this happened a year ago... If I answer without checking my caller Id, I just tell them I don't have a computer and they hang up.....very mean fellows to do this to someone.

Just got a call from some "Geek Squad" saying that there are other people using the internet associated with my computer and that are other "devices" using my passwords, etc. Could barely speak English. The interesting thing was that he was able to verify my email address which is not the one I normally use.  In any event, he offered to fix the problem; I allowed him to get so far with his babbling, then I told him someone is at the door and I will call him back.  He's still waiting.

The tech scams are very well publicized.  TV, newspapers, internet, government sites, private organizations such as AARP, so I don't know how you didn't see a story on one.  As a matter of fact my credit union just sent a flyer out and it had a section in it on scams to avoid.
