Yesterday this number called my office. They called my cell phone. They called the cell phone of my ex-husband's wife. They say they are attempting to "trace" me. When I called them back, they won't say who they're representing, what this is about, if it's an attempt to collect a debt (because who else does tracing, right?)......they won't say anything, not even the full name of the company and where they're located, until I tell them the last 4 digits of my social security number (which she seemed to know).  When I kept pressing her for more information before I'd verify anything, she became threatening and hung up on me.  This stuff is designed to rattle your nerves.....and it works. Even though I know to be careful, it's scary to have them do this.  This isn't the first scam company I've been contacted by, I just can't figure out if it really is the same company and they just keep changing their names and numbers.....or if there are that many out there and *no one* figures out how to shut them down.

You, the person who owns those phone numbers, have the right to know who is calling you.
If they refuse to tell you, hang up on them.
If you suspect they are calling for a debt collection, tell them to mail the proof of the debt, then hang up.
