Ste 107 Fort lauderdale fla. 33309 . who is this man
- Caller: Jim Bell attorney
- Call type: Debt collector
- BigA replies to Cynthia BurchFirst, if he was a real attorney he would know that text messages are still illegal. Second, if he was a real attorney he would be able to provide you with a BAR number and his state (s) of registration. Third, the address comes up to a possible residential neighborhood, however there is a strip mall nearby and it might be a UPS (or something like that) store based on the STE 107. Fourth, I did find a James Bell attorney not located in that city claiming to be an Alternative Dispute Resolution attorney which could be a pretend debt collector since he is not registered in Florida as a debt collector.
It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it. You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified. If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.
First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

They never said who they were. Scam
- Caller: Don’t know
- BigA replies to JohannaOh, they are back to the firearms and animals? How about the orange vest? These people are so stupid.
- RobertBogus calls people. Every state has a statute of limitations so even if you did owe money at one time, it's most likely been well past the statute period.
These people most likely purchased very old debts for pennies and are using scare tactics to extort money from people. Just ignore it. He said the same thing to me that he was at my residence but could not contact me. I work from home, have 2 large dogs that bark if a cricket farts, and have a cctv security system. Not only did no one come, no one suspicious ever got anywhere near my home.
If someone is going to sue you, they don't give you the heads up. They just do it. When people give you a warning, it's a bluff aimed to scare.

Same info as other calls about having no guns etc. and leaving a case number about a summons from my county but no mention of the county name or state. Scammer.
