Left the phone ring 10 times the didn't leave a voicemail.  Blocked

Some scammers will let the phone ring 4 times, hang up, quickly redial, let it ring 4 more times, etc. because many answering machines and voicemail will answer after 4 rings. They are trying to get past the machine.

I have seen this happen with my landline phone caller ID display, and further proof in my Uverse call logs - three to four calls within a 2-minute span.

The scammers do this even if the called number does not have voice mail or an answering machine. The theory is that sometimes people don't have time to get to the phone before the answering machine or voice mail catches the call, another theory is that the scammer hopes the called number thinks their answering machine is broken or the voice mail is not working.
