- NathanI received the same call as everyone else and so I googled them and found this forum. I called them back and someone named Andy answered. He said that Doug Liht was his assistant and that a form that I filled out had been selected 3 days ago (I never fill out forms like this so I knew that that wasn't true. He said that it could have been a friend or coworker that filled out my information). The form was submitted 8-14 months ago in either Myrtle Beach, Wilmington, Florence, Charleston or Goose Creek in South Carolina. The company he said he was with was called Grand Discovery Sweepstakes. He said he only needed my name but I don't trust people on the phone and I certainly don't believe in anything for "free".
- Caller: Grand Discovery Sweepstakes
- lcGot a call from 708-679-1526 (Caller ID) from Doug Liht on 2/20/09, same as above messages, with same message about winning the Ford Explorer or Lincoln Navigator. Called back (1-877-287-7637, the # they left) and talked to Sam Keys who said we needed to be at a presentation the next day (2/21/09) and would win either one of the cars (or equivalent cash), or a 3 night trip to either Cancun, Orlando, or Las Vegas, or a 32" TV. Same deal- said we had filled out an entry form that we didn't fill out. He said he represented Sunshine Travel, and gave us a code number that he said was from our entry form. He said we'd need to fill out an entry form and bring 2 forms of ID (Drivers' license and credit card). If we won the trip and didn't want to take it within the alloted 12 months, we could sell it (but we had to accept it if we won it). There was to be a drawing to determine winners from some scratch off we'd do at the door. I asked what info was needed on the registration form and he said the same stuff as on the entry form, which made no sense, and included the amount of our income which I always leave blank on surveys and stuff. He called a 2nd time from 708-679-1884. I did a reverse lookkup on the two 708 numbers (from caller-ID) and they were from Illinois - one belonging to W. Schmidt and the other to G. Maze. So I did an internet search on rip-offs and Sunshine Travel, and got quite an education. The travel group is one I'd never want to deal with from what I'd read - too much to go into here, but pretty unethical behavior. There were also a lot of Cancun and Orlando entries. So not going to their seminar was a smart move.

- MichaelThe same scam was dropped on my answering machine. My name is Nick Ball please call me back to get your New Ford Explorer. I never entered a contest and he never said what contest. Unlike the wortheless DoNotCall website which relies on your lazy State Attornety General do something (which they won't), the FCC does take enforcement action. The FCC acts quickly and you will even get an acknowledgement letter in the postal mail in about a week or two.
When filling out the form, make sure you say that they are trying to sell you something so the FCC doesn't reject your complaint. It is illegal to call, regardless of what is said, if it is a prelude to sell you something, which this is. They are selling vacation packages.
I was called by a local business for over two years and my DoNotCall website complaints did nothing. I even sent a postal letter to my State Attorney General asking why they weren't enforcing it. Their office replied telling me to file a complaint at DoNotCall.gov. Gee, that's what I did for over two years and it did nothing.
When I filled out the FCC online complaint form, the calls stopped and have for more than two years. The company was warned first by the FCC but they kept calling so I kept complaining to the FCC. After a few months I got a letter from the FCC saying they took enforcement action and I haven't heard from the company since.
If you want, keep a log of the calls so when they call in the future you can show this on the online complaint form. I just email myself the quick details with the date, time, and number of the telemarketer and keep it in a Do Not Call folder in my Yahoo mail box.- Call type: Telemarketer
- TedAlso, If you attened the time share, please give any details so they can be passed on to the FCC. Perhaps they will visit them and bust them there.

- JohnA message that was left on my voice mail said that I was selected as a finalist to win a Ford Explorer or Lincoln Navigator SUV and that it was in my best interest to contact Doug Liht at 877-287-7637 extension 0. I have not entered any contest to win an SUV. From reading all the notes here it sounds like a con.
