A mailer was received as a "Notice of Change in Terms, Right to Opt Out and Information Update" for a non-existent credit card identified as a Citibank account.

Since there is no credit card account with Citibank, this company behind this number could be phishing for information.

The number, 877-305-1984, is listed to call for needing additional clarification or to opt out on the changes to the credit card agreement.

Using other reverse lookup services, does not identify the location (one listed it as a landline, another as a mobile) or company.

I received the same thing. I'm pretty sure it's a scam.  I do not have any accounts with Citibank and the writing in the letter just sets off my BS alarm a little.  I'm forwarding it to my state's district attorney.

It is a citibank account, and in my case, turned out to be my Staples credit card, which was almost 24% to begin with. This simply means that I will stop using it.....

i received the mailer yesterday.  Called the number and was told that all the 'associates' were busy.  I hung up and called again.  This time, i was told all the 'representatives' were helping other customers.  I called a third time and now they were called 'agents'.  i called a fourth time and they were back to being called 'representatives'. i don't have an account with the four numbers that are on the mailer.  I called citibank's 800 number and they had no idea what i was talking about. there is no company name on the mailer just 'citibank(south dakata)', but the address is a p.o. box in dallas,tx.

i thought for sure that this was a trick. i only own 3 credit cards, one of which i cancelled the day before receiving this letter in the mail. i waited on the phone for over 10 minute but reps were still busy. and the letter doesn't include enough information about the company. it looks extremely fishy. but come to find out, after looking at my 3 different accounts, the four numbers in the letter match my cancelled account for The Childrens Place and on the back of my statement, in small letters at the bottom it says Citibank.

I just received this letter today.  I too thought it was some sort of scam for identity theft.  I googled the number listed ( Gawd I love the interweb) and found this dandy listing.  Read a bit.  Saw the citibank reference and realized it was for my NTB card.  I guess I should keep better track of "credit" cards with my name on them. :P  Maybe I should just get rid of a few that I don't use anyway or better yet, cards like this should be referenced as to what they're for NOT for what institution the credit comes from.  We lay folk need all the help we can get.  :D

Anyway...This is no scam.  It's just a notice of change in terms for those cards that we all tend to forget we have.  Relax.

Hi. I received this letter too.
    The sender address was
    "P.O.Box 653037
    Dallas, TX, 75265-3037"

I called Citibank and they said that never had an account under my name.
    I think it's a fraud,
since in letter there is an 877-305-1984 number which never answers and letter asks to send your complete personal data to them to the above address.
Be careful and stay away from.

I just got said letter in the mail, and was alarmed like everyone else because the letter didn't say a specific company, but specified an account number. I called the number to see if this was legit, but it was closed today, and it still doesn't say any company name with the number.

I decided to google it, and luckily found this site. Mine is a Zales card, too.

Ditto here. I had to do some research but discovered that it was a Goodyear credit card that I took out in order to get a fat discount on a set of tires. I had since paid it off and destroyed the card and that's why I didn't remember the card number. Citibank says I don't have a card, even though Goodyear runs their credit through Citibank. I call the tire company and they had the card number on file with Goodyear phone number, so I called and got it straight: no balance but couldn't cancel the card until office opens on Monday. If anyone has done a similar thing, check your receipts and call the company who opened the card for your purchase. You should be able to get all the info you need to see what the problem is.

Got a letter in the mail.  Thought it was phishing.  Got to digging around in my files and found the card.  Turned out to be Goodyear.  Luckily, I have a zero balance with them.

Credit card companies are working themselves right out of business with this nonsense.  Goodbye to them for good.

After totally freaking out about identity theft, and calling Citibank, they couldn't find such an account. I was prepared to call my state's attorney general's fraud hotline. Then I remembered my paid-off Gordon's card! What a panic for nothing - except that I'll be sure to give them NO MORE BUSINESS!!!

Anyone link this to a Verizon $50 rebate card yet?  That is my only connection that I can think of since it says "citi" on it.  The acct. number(card #) is different.

I received the same mailer. It LOOKS like a phishing scheme. It was very poor judgment on the part of CitiBank to not give further info to consumers about the specific cards these letters were sent out. It should not have been that difficult to include the company for which the card is associated--they were able to include the last four digits of the account number, after all.

The biggest reason that this LOOKS like a phishing scheme is that it does not include the full account number. The misspelling of the name does not help, either. They did not prove to me that they are who they say they are, and I will thus not communicate with them regarding this matter.

Assuming this is legit, however, the thing that bothers me the most is that the mailer I received was (I believe) for a Circuit City card that I closed months ago. I do not like it that they seem to think the account is still open (why else would I receive the mailer?). And because the letter LOOKS so much like a phishing attempt, I don't want to contact them about it. I don't remember the full credit card number because I cut up the card after I closed the account. (I could probably find the number if I dig through records, if I was really worried that much.) I have a zero balance on the card and will never use it again, so the "new terms" aren't going to affect me. I still don't like it that they think my account is still open--if the mailer *really* is from CitiBank.

I got the same thing today and all the alarms went off as well.  After digging through old account info (never throw away old card numbers and who they go to) I discovered that it was in fact Zales.  The weird thing is I closed that account almost a year ago.  Time to call Zales tomorrow and ask why it is still open or see if Citibank doesn't know its azz from its elbow about what accounts are active.  And the banks wonder why they are in trouble????

I got this letter too and the number doesn't even work. It seems to be out of order. I keep records of my card numbers and can't find this one listed in my file, so I suspect like so may others here that is one I closed. But what is infuriating is that now there is no way to call them to find out.

I called several CitiBank numbers... all of them did not know who I was.  I finally, out of curiosity, called the 877-305-1984 number and got a nice long recorded message explaining that the account could be in relation to many different retailers.

After holding a short while I was able to speak to a warm body and the guy asked for a code from the lower right corner of the letter and was able to tell me who the retailer is.  After he told me the name of a place I know I have an account with I knew the letter was legit.

Bottom Line:  This is NOT a scam, however I do agree with others on this thread:  The letter was very poorly executed and had several scam "red flags" in it.
