Some collection service for someone I haven't from. Shoddy business.

No stop phone calls every few weeks. Give it up. I don't know who you are calling about

Recently started to receive calls from this number which went into the answering machine.  My husband passed away this spring and they are trying to collect on a non-existent debt.  The caller was hard to understand but asked that I return her call.  I'm sure there will be more to follow.  ( This type of call is particularly upsetting & annoying when a person is coping with the loss of a family member and following up on all the responsibilities that follow. )

My father passed away the day after Thanksgiving. These scum called my mother tonight. This kind of practice should be illegal!

Right. Good idea. Because everyone knows criminals always obey the law and never do anything if it's illegal.

Same here. My husband passed away 10 months ago. He had debt I was not aware of.  I have sent them death certificate. obituary and informed them there is no estate. I have told them I cannot pay these bills and have asked several times to have them stop calling me. They still call. It borders on harrassment and does not help in the grieving process.

Please see the April 2016 post from BigA on page 1 in this thread - you need to know what rights and protections apply in this case. If the debt was joint, you need to get some legal advice on this. Contact your state Bar Association and ask about low/no cost legal aid.

You want to be sure the debt exists, there are scammers who try to get you to pay a debt that never was.

Same thing happened to me in April, 2021 so they are still at it. Left message saying his name was Brian Valetti but did not tell me what company he was calling from. Needless to say, I did not call him back nor will I ever.

I got a call from this number and a "private" message was left and anyone else was asked not to listen.  Yeah, right!  Bigger problem is the deceased person had put my cell phone number on some record somewhere - I was getting all kinds of political messages and texts.  Now this.

debt doesn't go away when a person dies.  I lost my mom and her attorney had to post to all creditors she passed so she could get correct amount owed so they can be paid and closed.

Boy you sure left a lot out of that post didn't you?  A person's estate is responsible for the debt not the surviving members of the family unless their name is also on the debt.  Why did you not mention that?  Now if you had actually taken the time to read the post that you replied to (which was made in 2013 by the way) you would have seen that there was no estate.  So unless that person stops back here 9 years later to tell you otherwise she is not responsible for the debt unless her name was also on it.  Now, go troll elsewhere because there is no reason for you to be here.  You clearly did not get a phone call from these crooks.
