- Carolyn N| 2 repliesMy youngest son got a phone call from the 877-333-0631 today, the person calling disclosed all of his brothers info about owing some huge debt, I used to work in collections and know that is against the law...my oldest son called, was threatened to serve jail time, be charged with a felony and/or misdemeanor if $600 is not paid by friday. My son hasn't had a bank account since 2009....I called back, spoke to "Ofiicer Pierce ?", lead arbitrator and he told me of legal action...bad deal if this is a scam because my son is terrified that he's in trouble...also a Laura Whitaker is ext 304

- Alfalfa replies to Carolyn N| 1 replyThe Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:
•is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
•refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
•asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
•exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
•Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.
•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
•Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
•Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
•Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

- jReceived a call on July 29, 2014. The called said her name was Tiffany Johnson and she was calling from SCS Legal Services . There was a cival complaint filed against a fault check product sitting in her office. I was told another person was the respondent and I was one too. I had to call back by end of day and provide a number. "Then she said: "you have been notified". Have a great day and good luck.

- Janice| 1 replyRepeatedly get calls on answering machine. Man on answering machine said his name is Bobby Adams and he is a Processing Officer, looking for my son, they had been to his home but no one was there. Said he would be back to the home today and that my son should have two forms of ID and that all dogs should be restrained. He further said if my son had any questions he should call 1-877-333-0631, referenced the summons # 141032. If attempts to find him at home fails, he will then go to my son's place of business.
- Slim replies to JaniceLegitimate process servers do not call to warn you, or to get money from you to stop the process. They will deliver the notification without warning.
Also, if you were threatened with an "arrest warrant" via a phone call or email, read this:
http://news.uscourts.gov/warning-arrest-warrant-scam
"The warrant is phony. A valid warrant would not be served by fax or e-mail. It would be served in person by a U.S. Marshal or other law enforcement officer."
"Anyone receiving a fake arrest warrant should contact the FBI or the district U.S. Marshals Office. If there is any question regarding the authenticity of a warrant, contact your district clerk of court."
Now, read Alfalfa's earlier post. - Ashley| 3 repliesI have been getting calls from random numbers telling me to call back this number 877-333-0631 I never did. - kim morganGot a message today from this #..some guy said he was at my house yesterday but was unsuccessful in serving me these papers. (A lie..I was home all day) anyway..claims he's coming back today and I should have 2 forms if ID and he would appreciate it if I would lock away any firearms or dangerous dogs..LOL. omg, I was laughing so hard I was crying.

No one is coming to your house. This is beyond ridiculous. I called the police to report it - Ashley replies to kim morganThank you so much Kim Morgan I kind of thought it was fake since I was home half the day but wasn't sure. Yes his vm said the exact same thing plus why would I need 2 forms of ID if you are serving me?! Is that normal protocol?

- Irritated| 1 replyThis is such a huge SCAM! They called me today and I didn't even answer. They have tried calling me before and I told hem I know it's a huge extortion scam. I reported them to FTC, don't give any personal information. They also call from 877-318-0965. 877-885-885-6243 : If you research this number it does show who is behind all of this and like I did it does suggest to report to Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

- CWG40 replies to AshleyTotal scam. Read the other notes. This group seems to specialize in accusing people of check fraud. Of course, if there is check fraud, the bank notifies you, not some scammy debt collector. Prosecutions are handled by public prosecutors and debt collectors would have nothing to do with it. Don't call these people back. Don't talk to them and block their calls.
- sick of itSo sick and tired of these annoying calls. Same lies as you all have already heard. They also use different phone numbers. They are pushy, rude and demanding. Do not fall for their antics!
