Received a message from a heavily accented English speaker (possibly Indian) who wanted me to call regarding unwanted "Intrusions to my Network".  The guy sounded like he was a full of *hit scam artist and i didn't return his call.  My number is totally unlisted so you know they are using some kind of calling machine or computer.  Couldn't understand the company name (intentional?) but he wanted an immediate return call to the 877 number  ext.  305 and ask for Steve.   What is their scam?

Claimed that they are calling on behalf of Microsoft because someone from Nigeria is trying to get into my computer by fraudulent means.  To prevent this, he had me go to Logmein123 and once there he gave me a 6 digit code...I didn't feel comfortable and I terminated the call and called Microsoft who verified that it was a gimmick to gain control of my computer

This phone number came up when I quickly looked on google for a phone number for Quickbooks customer service. (lesson learned to make sure it's the REAL customer service number for these companies). They answered and asked me to share my screen with them so they could help identify the problem I was having.  I typed in a web address that allowed them to share my screen - and as it was opening, he said "just click OK" to download the software to enable it.  He then started looking at my quickbooks account, but all of a sudden said "wait, it looks like you might have been hacked" and started pulling up lines of code and even a notification that looked like it came from my own computer a few weeks ago.  I thought it was strange that I hadn't seen any notification pop up on my computer, and questioned it, but he gave me some sort of "tech" answer, and to be honest, I'm not very tech savvy, so I thought it made sense.  He then said that he could transfer me to a microsoft customer service rep who could help me with this.  I also thought it was strange that he just transfered the call and the microsoft rep had full control of my screen as well.  As soon as the guy started asking me for my information, it all clicked that this was some sort of scam.  I hung up, thankfully without giving me anything more than my name and home phone number, and googled the 877 number and found other similar stories.  I even called the 877 number again from my home phone, to hear how they answered it, and hung up.  They called me back, the caller ID said Micro PC Tech and the number was 302-358-2408, I answered and they said "this number just called us and the call got disconnected".  I told them I must have dialed the wrong number.  BEWARE!!!!  And big lesson learned on my end.  It's a shame you can't trust anyone.

Can't believe this happened to me too! I was given this number by Bank of America as Quicken support.  I'm having trouble getting BOA to add a credit card account in Quicken.  BOA told me it was a Quicken problem.  I called and this foreign guy asked to take over my computer and told me that I had been hacked and did the same thing he did to you.  They wanted to charge me $299.99 to "clean up" my computer.  I stupidly gave them my credit card number, but then I googled the number and saw your post.  I immediately told them to stop and not to charge me.  My son was furious with me! Luckily, they didn't charge me, but the guy did call (same 302 number that called you) and try to talk me back into paying them, but I told him no way and said that if they did charge my card or if anything happened to my accounts I would come after them with a vengeance!  Can't believe I was so stupid, but I thought it was legit since the number was given to me by BOA! This is a total moneymaking thing as they even told me they were tech support for Quicken server issues.  I'm sure Intuit will be intersted!

If it was financial info, IMMEDIATELY notify your credit card company or bank of fraudulent activity. It's favorable you'll get the charges reversed as well as account numbers changed. Anytime you receive random calls from foreigners about computers, finances, or claiming to be the IRS, hang up as soon as you notice the accent. Rarely will a random call from overseas callers offer anything good.

I received a complaint from an elderly woman who got a pop up on her computer from "Microsoft Tech Network" at 1 877 333 6087. They used remote access to her computer and also got a credit card for $299. She cancelled her credit cards right after the call but these guys are ruthless.
