    Received a call from Ron Howard with Multi State Recovery. He asked for Angela, and I know an Angela, so I said can I take a message. He stated hes preparing a briefing for court and wanted to speak with her. My best friend is an Angela so I was concerned that it might be a call for her. I called back the number, it went to an actual company (sounding phone system) so I entered his extension provided. He answered and I asked for the last name of Angela and he wouldn't provide it or an initial. We argued so I thought I would look further into the company and saw your post.

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
    Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

    Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
    Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
    Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

    Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

    Left a rude message about I know who they are and what I did.
    Said it was a matter about us bank. I called us bank and said they would never do such a thing and that I have no account or record of me. I was so upset because the girl was rude to me and when I hung up she continued to blow up my phone. I also got calls from the same company using a different number. 804 616 4377

    Got a call from Ron Howard saying all of the the wage garnishment crap on my voicemail which as a former collector is a violation of the fair credit act. He would not let me speak and yelled at me like I was a dog. Per the FTC they do have to provide written verification of any debt by law and he refused to do so. Then after he hung up on me Amelia Taylor called all sweet trying to see if we could clear up the matter today. I politely told her that I requested written verification of the debt in question and until they can send it they can do whatever it is they have to do. This is all illegal collection activity from a debt collector and all to often it goes unreported. Call the FTC and report it.

    Got a call from " Emilia Taylor " claiming to be calling from multi state recovery. She left a voicemail with using my name and last 4 of my social claiming that i had been notified of a time sensitive matter and that further action will be taken. I called back and left her a nessage letting her know that this was obviously a scam because i have no outstanding debt and that i would notify the authorities if she called again. She then called back and told me i am a coward and hung up. No legitimate company would have employees talk to people that way especially when they are trying to get money from you.

    My experience was pleasant. I had an installment loan that charged off. I was able to work out a generous settlement that saved me a little over $500.00. I received a letter saying that the account is Settled.

    Wow - two company shills today.  Given all the other complaints and reports of clear FDCPA violations, I guess you came to attempt damage control.

    Since you are thrilled with this company, and since you received a letter, you should be able to give us the correct company name and address.  There doesn't seem to be a web presence of any kind for a Multi State Recovery, which seems odd in this day and age.

    So your pain threshold begins at "rudeness" and utterly ignores the more serious threat of arrest, which is a glaring FDCPA violation. The fact that allegedly you "do owe the debt" does not change the collector's responsibility to honor your rights with regard to fair and honest treatment. Any agency which cannot follow a simple set of laws should never win your money, end of argument.

    It's clear that you were also "anonymous" above with the rental store debt, as here you are telling the same story with different names. You will not in fact "keep owing Wells Fargo" since it's evidently been converted to a junk debt if it's in the hands of extortionists making false legal threats. Try not to keep rehashing your story if you would like to avoid a connotation of covert shill.

    Joy, another junk US Bank portfolio which they unloaded to the debt buyer market long ago and no longer care about. What are those refried accounts worth now, a dollar a pop?

    You collector bullies never change your broken records. You want your victims to call the original creditor, call the debt buyers, call the credit bureaus, and then call you clowns to beg for a "paid, thanks" letter. How exhausting, and useless. None of those actions create or confirm debt liability and none do anything to preserve a person's FDCPA rights. The paper chase burden is yours, not the alleged debtor's, and if you could find any you would not be stooping to ridiculous threats.

    Did you receive a bill BEFORE you paid them? You know, proof they were legally able to collect this "generous settlement"? Oh, and if you had a pleasant experience, why did you look up the phone number? You KNOW who called you so why did you come to a phone number look-up site?

    "it was okay to go forth and pay them"?! Who in the world tells someone to "go forth" instead of go ahead? Well, okay, a scammer would say that, I guess.

    Same story as the rest of the people on here. I received a call from a Brian Jones who was wheezing into the phone. He was claiming to be an investigatior for a law firm and to call 804-977-1731. He then provided the last 4 of my social and D.O.B. He then states I need to have my attorney contact him. First, he could barely breath and sounded like he was eating so much he could barely talk. Secondly,  what debt collection provides your personal information on a voicemail.  Lastly,  why was this information not mailed to me in writing.  You found my D.O.B, but not my address. Yea sure
