877-386-7915 called on a Saturday evening, on my cell# which I just got a couple of months ago, only one person so far got this new # from me. The caller did not leave a VoiceMail.
I tried calling as 'private caller', a recording came on: >>THIS CALL DID NOT GET THROUGH. Would you please hang up and try again. This is a recording.<<   Scammers, and blocked for good.

Call back gets, "This is the emergency support fund.  Funds up to thirty thousand dollars are available to you but you must take advantage of this program fast....etc."  This is likely a scam.  While there are (or at least were) emergency funds available during the COVID 19 pandemic, this is likely an attempt to get your financial information.

Calling these numbers by displaying your phone# and name is a big mistake, just don't...
They just call 'blindly' thousands of random phone numbers on both sides of the border.

    Copy/paste:
The "emergency support fund" is a scam used in the US and Canada to steal money and personal information through deceptive emails, texts, or phone calls. Scammers impersonate government agencies and promise fake payments for things like rent or inflation relief to trick people into clicking malicious links or giving up sensitive data. To protect yourself, be skeptical of unsolicited messages, never click links or provide information, and always go directly to official government websites for information.

*How to spot the scam / DEAD GIVEAWAYS (just to name 2 of many):
->>Unsolicited contact: You receive an unexpected text, email, or phone call about a fund you didn't apply for.
->>Urgency: The message creates a sense of urgency, claiming you must act immediately to receive money or avoid negative consequences.

Verify through official channels: Go directly to the official government website (like Canada.ca or ReportFraud.ftc.gov) to check for any legitimate programs.
    Report the scam:
In Canada: Report the scam to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
In the US: Report the scam to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

Considering that this is an 877 "Toll-Free" number, you might want to rethink that statement.
Whether you used *67 before the call or you have a permanent Caller-ID block through your phone company, Toll-Free numbers can see what number called them through Automatic Number Identification (ANI) which is different and separate from Caller-ID.  Depending on the type of account they have, they may have seen your number when the call was answered or they may have to wait to see it on their billing statement, but they do know that your number called at a specific time.
This is true for just about all numbers with an "8NN" area code (each N being the same digit).  The only exceptions are 811 (reserved for regional information services as 8-1-1), 822 (reserved for future Toll-Free use) and 899 (reserved for future undefined use).

Yes, thank you, Nimrod.  I am aware that it is a toll free but I am quite "safe" I assure you.  Cheers
