Got a scam call from this number from a guy who called our home number/land line, and our cell phone. Has a heavy Indian accent claiming to be from "Norman Cooper Dept of Tax and Audit". He claims this call is in regard to a lawsuit that he says we are named in and that we will be held legally responsible if we don't call him back. We are not named in a lawsuit and have not been served any type of papers, therefore, we are certain this is a scam. He gives just enough information to scare you, but not enough information to be informative in any way. Very tricky.

Received a message from this number today..heavy Indian accent.  Tried to make it sound as though my social security number was being used fraudulently, or I THINK that's what he was implicating.  Quite honestly, I could barely understand anything he said, other than what he chose to make clear (IRS, call right away, serious matter, etc).  I am pretty sure the IRS does not call you to tell you someone is fraudulently using your social security number.  In most cases, you don't find out until it's way too late.

Got a call from this moron that claimed to be "Officer Jim Carter", okay no Indian sounding person has the name of our 38th president Jimmy Carter. He started harassing me with his brilliantly written out script. He said that my mother was in trouble with the IRS, and that she committeed illegal actions. First of all, IRS sends emails with a special seal not calls and terrorizes you. He told me to give to phone to my mother, I talked back and immdetalty started yelling at me; why did you hang up on me...... DON'T ANSWER THIS IS A SCAM. I WISH THIS INDIAN NOBODY CAN ONE DAY BE CAUGHT AND BE IN TROUBLE WITH THE IRS. It's a waste of time, don't even call back to fool him it's not waste your time or words. Thank you to this website. After I got the call, I ran straight to this website. Seriously, Indian.... Named Jim carter? After the president. Yeah no! Big time scam.

I just had the same message from "Ricky Smith" at the "IRS". Something about an audit, dept, serious trouble, and jail. I couldn't understand most of what he was saying. He gave me the number 877-403-6251, but my caller ID said 220-658-4790. This can't make the real people at the IRS very happy. My number is unlisted, so I don't know how they got it with my name, which, by the way he couldn't even pronounce the name James, let alone my last name which is a simple one syllable. That was my first red flag. I wish they could find these terrorists and lock them in a hole somewhere.

I received phone call on my home phone from 8774036251
Message says that I call them immediately otherwise I will be responsible for the consequences, the person identifies from IRS. The person use such abusive tone that to prove that we are guilty and we need help. Few months back the same person called and said that if I don't pay them US$ 3000.00 over phone from my credit card the police will come within 30 minutes and will arrest me.
I checked with IRS who informed that they never call on home phones, they always sends letter and then reminder and ask person to come to IRS office to have meeting face to face.
I am sure this is 100 % scam.

Remember, if anyone with an Indian accent cold calls you and 1.  offers you something or 2.  threatens you, you know (or should know) that it's a scam.  You should immediately hang up.

    ***
Why are people still falling for this?  Shouldn't  the accent be a dead giveaway?

My dad got a call from them today regarding me. My dad told them he is my father, so they ask for my number. Unfortunately my dad gave them my number. First they could not pronounce my name which is indian. I told them I paid my taxes and they started threatening me and yelling at me on the phone. I then told him to calm down and yelled at me again.  After that I told him to [***] off and hang up.

Got the call today.  They had my husband's name, while the phone number is only in my name, which I find disconcerting because it means this loser bought the name from a list somewhere.   A msg was left on my answering machine.  I hope no one falls for this scam.  Drives me insane that they can keep doing this.

I have received a call from this number two days in a row!  My fiancé called him a terrorist and asked him how much money he has stolen from people and he said that Americans were a bunch of cowards.  Just tried to call the number myself and it said it was no longer in service.  Hopefully they got that B$@#$%&^!!!

Got the same call today.  Said they had 4 counts against me from tax years 2008-2012 and that I owed $3,511 from tax fraud during this time.  Gave me a case file number, told me his name was Officer Brad Nelson, agent #50991, and was from the Department of Tax Audits for the IRS.  He continually told me that I was being recorded and that he was calling from the IRS headquarters.  Spoke with a very heavy Indian accent, very aggressive tone, telling he was going to send "our authorities" to my home in 30 minutes to arrest me, put a lien on all my assets, confiscate all my government ID and give notice to my work place about my case.  Told me he was calling from California but wouldn't tell me where.  Said he didn't have a supervisor, but was under the supervision of an attorney, Jonathan Meyers who he transferred me to who sounded like he had a very slight southern accent.  My wife called the police while I was on the phone with him and they have had numerous reports about this scam.  When I told him that we had contacted the police about this allegation he abruptly hung up the phone.  Clearly a scam, don't become a victim.

Yep - thank goodness all you nice people post here about these a**hats. I never fall for any unrecognized number and I always look here before buying anyone's BS.  However, I do feel for those who get snagged by these jerks since it's not always easy to tell if the guy is acting professional. Of course, using bad language, making ridiculous threats or hanging up on you is a dead scam giveaway.

The freaks from this number actually called my office today and we got an email warning us all not to fall for it.

I used to work for another company that had regular dealings with the IRS regarding wage garnishment and tax collecting. The IRS will ALWAYS send several letters before doing anything since they actually will work with you and even if you ignore those, they will NOT call and make threats, they will just garnish your wages if you have a job. Plus...before that happens you'll get even MORE letters warning you they are going to garnish.

So....tell these morons to pound sand.
