- DisgustedNo LEGITIMATE company will ask for your SS# to "Prove identity". The card says "For SS and Tax purposes, not for Identification." Do NOT send a copy of the card. It's an open invitation to ID theft!
- Irfan Khani received the same phone call a few days back and a lady wanted to verify the information i provided through the online application system. anyway, i gave her all the information including the SSN and address. then she told me that i will be receiving a letter asking for some documents. i got this letter yesterday asking me to call 800-213-9435. the man asked me to send a copy of photo ID and a copy of utility bill for verifying my current address through either fax or postal service to this Appeal Box 15077 Wilmington DE 19886. iprinted out the copies and then decided to verify the address and ended up on this page. so i called chase credit card department at 800-432-3117 and requested them to verify that the letter originated from their office. i gave her the PO box no. and asked her to check if that is Chase's Appeal Box. she confirmed that this PO box belongs to them and that is called the appeal box. so, i am sure that this letter is legitimate and i am going to send the documents tomorrow.
you may feel like its scam because you did not apply for a card. this system is in fact to protect you from scam. someone else may have got hold of your information and is trying to get a credit card in your name. that is why this manual verification is important. if u did not apply for a card, then you are not going to send the documents and the person who is impersonating you will not get the card.
request to others - for god's sake do not misguide people without verifying it yourself. u r doing more harm than good by posting invalid and unverified information here. if u suspect it is a scam, just look up chase's credit card department's number and call them.- Caller: JP Morgan Chase

- KarLI received a letter from CHASE with my address but a name of a person that has never lived at my address so , I googled the po box 15077 , called 877-470-9042 , after much wrangling the Foreign female voice , said she was located at the Main Bank , that the person probrably applied online, so since she said she was at the MAIN BRANCH , but kept avoiding disclosing where it was located , she FINALLY , said she was located in Manilla , Phillippines , that Chase Fraud dept. was located their ... I know that's BS , because Chase Main Branch is in New York City , so the FRAUD is coming out of Manilla Phillippines , People applying for a Card online are giving their info to Credit Card Fraudsters in the Phillippines.
- unsurprized replies to skepticBanks are banks, in it for their own profit of others' pay us penalties, their fees, their profits and interests and losses of "customers". I was sent a letter on not being approved, ((boohoo...NOT, lol. I wasn't aware that I applied, anyway, online shopping places like amazon promotes Credit and could care less where you get it from, The reason they sent me a congenial "sorry letter" was = Obligations too high relative to income....probably because ( #1. I didn't want credit, #2. I didn't need their credit, and 3rd "I refuse to use and so I don't indicate just exactly how much income I do make, because it's none of their damned business, and I have never had a credit card for 30 years and not interested in starting that life long hassle. Banks....ugh.
- miss replies to skeptici got one of those also I went into chase and asked if they would check it out she gave them the social security number and a reference number because I would not give them my birth certificate of dl they declined credit
- Billy replies to Chase ApplicantSo they sent you a letter to your physical address asking you to verify your physical address....sounds legit
- John QueernThis is definitely a legitimate number for the Chase credit card fraud department. Like others, I received a letter which had my name slightly misspelled but had the address exactly correct. It claimed that I had applied for an Amazon.com credit card (I didn't), but they were suspicious and needed more information from me. I have an existing Chase card, so I called the fraud department directly (not the number in the letter) -- only to discover that yes, this letter came from Chase. I was transferred to the group which actually sent the letter and they told me that someone applied for a card in my name online at Amazon.Com. I asked why this would do them any good if the card would have been sent to my address had the request succeeded anyway. Their answer was interesting: Amazon gives customers a free gift card when they apply for an Amazon Visa. That's probably what they were after. However, this counts as identity theft because they had enough information to apply and get this far, so they recommended that I call any one of the credit bureaus and freeze my credit reporting or set up an alert on my account in order to prevent any further attempts.

- DougWe got a letter purporting to be from Chase stating that we had applied for a credit card and they needed more information. First, we had not made a credit card application, so we called the number on the back of our Chase issued credit card. Chase looked up the phone number in the letter and the return address PO Box and said that neither is part of their network and that the letter is a hoax! Fact: This letter and the phone number are simply an attempt to defraud you!
I suspect that the people on this site claiming that the letter/phone number are real, are in fact the hoaxers offering "Alternative Facts" trying to muddy the water, confuse the gullible and hide their guilt (does this sound familiar).- Caller: Claimed to be Chase Bank
- HeatherReceived a letter saying someone put in an application for a signature card. I called the number - a gentleman in India who said my local bank wouldn't know anything about this because it is a different department - said that he would close the application and remove it from my credit report. He also recommended I go to chase.com and get the ID theft kit, and gave me a number (800-525-6285) which he said was Equifax to get a 90 day fraud alert. I started to do that, but it asked for my social security number, and I got nervous and hung up. Will be bringing the letter to my local branch next.
- ttkGot a letter saying i filled out an application for an Amazon.com visa. Called a chase rep (NOT 877 470 9042) becuz I did NOT fill out an application.
They sent me to the Fraud operator and blocked application . DO NOT LET THIS GO..Every time u apply for a card it affects your credit..and u don't want to chance if one of these cards actually get approved by a stranger. Anyway..I'm sure the 877 # was real..but why chance it...call a number u know is real.- Caller: chase?
- Debd replies to Still more fraudI received same letter and had never applied to have a Chase card. She gave me this number to call for fraud protection that is free for three months 1-888-397-3742. Have not called because I googled this “Chase card” and saw these responses. I have given her no additional info , thank God.
- kellyI filled out an application on line and then called the number that popped up on my screen after. They were requesting proof of business. I called 2 times and it was just really weird. Had a hard time understanding what more information was needed. Got photocopies of information and was like hey wait, this could be fraud. I looked up address and it popped this thread up so I called Chase directly and talked to the right people. It sounded like fraud but It's not. Took my documents to Chase directly to fax. SO far so good. Waiting to hear back, says can take 2 weeks. If it's fraud then man they are good!!! CHASE NUMBER DIRECTLY IS 1-888-269-8690 AND FAX NUMBER IS 1-888-643-9628.
