Out of the blue we started receiving multiple nonstop and threatening calls from what seemed a random phone number.  It turned out to be a collection agency with an extremely rude collectors for an outstanding debt of $200 which we never received a bill.  When I attempted to contact the collection agency to pay the outstanding debt, their phone service does not connect directly to the representative.  When I finally was able to contact the representative to find out the amount owed and address, the representative told me to "shut up" and called me stupid, then told me he didn't want to speak to an alien who couldn't speak English.  (I've been a U.S. citizen for nearly 20 years).  He also threatened to call my husband's work to get him in trouble with the military, and to take us to court.

The OFFICIAL way to notify you (if you really did owe)  is a letter that is mailed by that collector.  It must give company names, addresses, amount due, original creditor, etc.  Phone calls, emails, texts, and faxes  are NOT an official notification.  Pay nothing until you receive that.  It is also illegal to make threats (jail, etc.).  Suggestion - have your husband report this to his commander (especially the threat of arrest).  You were certainly not treated professionally - that shows the kind of people you are dealing with!
