I received paperwork from IRS, I checked on www.irs.gov and could not locate the phone number 1-800-829-8310 or fax number 877-477-9602. I wanted to be assured that it indeed the IRS before I give any personal information. I did not receive a phone call so I cannot give "call type" as listed below.

877-477-9602 was listed as a fax number on a supposed IRS letter. The phone number is 800-829-8310 which I apparently called before. They say we owe money but no amount is on here anywhere. Also the English appears to be a second language and the punctuation is horrible. The original correspondence looked right and we responded with lots of info. But this has a lot of questions.

System unable to deliver fax
Message read  line busy and no pages were delivered. Looking for an alternate number. Help. I am reluctant to send by mail with the shut down. I didn't receive a call from IRS but did get a solication from persons ID as tax consultants asking for info.

If you were getting a solicitation call/fax from someone spoofing the IRS fax number phishing for info, then why would you be concerned that sending a fax to it was undeliverable?

If you need help from the IRS, perhaps going to their website would be a place to look.
