We are fed up with this!  We have received 3-4 phone calls a day since January.  In the past the identification has been "UNAVAILABLE."  Ten minutes ago, the call came in from 877-492-4888.  We do not answer calls from either of them now.  I have all the dates and times of all these calls.  How do we STOP them?

Any debt collector is suppose to send you a verification letter in the mail 5 days after the intial contact. Once they do. Simply write them back that you are disputing these debt in it's entirety, if thats what you want to do. In the same letter just let tell them you know your rights under the FDCPA  and the FCRA. Also let them know since now you dispute this debt, they must notify the credit reporting agencies that you dispute this debt and they are to remove anything that has to do with this debt off your credit report.

Great advice posted by an attorney on:
    https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-718-732-0174

"IF they do not provide you with the verification of the debt, the debt is invalid and not subject to collection.  PAY NOTHING TO ANYBODY UNLESS THEY PROVIDE YOU WITH WRITTEN VERIFICATION OF THE DEBT, AND ONLY THEN IF YOU FEEL THE DEBT IS VALID - otherwise, let them sue you for the debt, as a real law firm will only bring a legal action on a truly valid debt".

Go here to obtain the template for the DV letter and read more on your consumer rights under the FDCPA:  http://www.fair-debt-collection.com/

Just got a call on my cell. If they think I owe them money according to Texas law, they should take it to court, period.

They are calling us 3 times a day, and it's midnight on the last call. I don't owe anyone any money period.
I am going to try and sue them.  This is horrible for anyone.

I continue to get multiple calls daily, I do not answer and no messages are left. On a holiday my 10 year old son answered the phone and there was indeed someone on the line. My son handed me the phone. They claim to be collecting on some astronomical debt with a creditor I never had an account with and claim this is a debt from 1996!
I told them it is not my debt, furthermore it would be uncollectibe nearly anywhere and that they should cease calling me. The most disturbing thing, besides the phone calls continuing, is that they (did not assertain who the company was that was calling) have the last 4 digits of my social - they did not however recite my full ss#. Anyone receiving these type of calls should be extremely cautious to scamming, phishing for your identification. They also recited an address of mine that was over 10 years old!
Do not provide any personal information!

This is a debt collector tied to Portfolio Recovery. They buy bad debts from the original and then try to collect. The original has already written off whatever they sell. If the debt is not owed then take legal action against the collector or ask for the states attorney generals office to get involved in conducting an investigation of the companies business practices in your state. The calls I get are '800 Service' on the ID. Even if owed, in Texas, there is nothing they can do other than call. The only time someone needs to respond and quickly to set up terms, if it was a student loan as they can attach wages, Social Security, Pensions, whatever and you won't like what they'll take. I hope this will help a lot of folks out there that these offshoots of Portfolio Recovery are harrassing.

IF this is a debt collection agency (and remember, you NEVER KNOW who is on the other end of these calls), they don't know what they're doing because I am not behind on any payments. Or they're trying to scam me. Scam phone calls? *sigh* All the time...

Same, Allied Intestate I assume. They tried to trick me into paying a very small amount to settle an old debt I have continually disputed. I thought it may be worth getting rid of it for the amount, but it was a scam. I never rec'd anything in the mail, but did get email (part of the scam) to which I replied "Please do not contact me again." Couple months later I got another phone call and told them to stop calling me. Now and the dead silence phone calls now 4-5 times a day. I have filed a complaint with attorney general and FCC. So far, nothing.

Please stop calling (954) 718-9876 or I am going to file a complaint to the Better Business Bureau. You have NO NEED TO SPEAK TO ME. I DO NOT have any outstanding debt.

I found a solution from another thread to deal with these unwanted calls that is simple and cheap. Frankly the Do Not Call list is useless, another example of a government program that claims to do something while really doing nothing. Instead, if your computer does not have a modem that supports Caller ID, go buy one (USB modems are only $10-$25) and download the PhoneTray Free program at no cost at http://www.phonetray.com/ptfree_download.htm . This application logs all incoming phone calls, and you can select specific numbers, or those that show "Unknown Number", and block them after one ring. The program also provides a number of prerecorded messages that it will play to the caller of the blocked number, such as "Not in service", "Invalid Number", "Disconnected", etc. It took seconds to install. Now for this number and other unwanted numbers we just get a single ring and that is all. I have no affiliation with the folks who make PhoneTray Free, and there are probably other programs out there to do the same thing. It it just the one I saw mentioned in another thread, decided to try it, and it works great.
