I received a paper mailing  (not a call) requesting I call this number "regarding a matter of importance".  This letter included a bank name, recent loan closing date, amount, county and lender name.  All were valid.

It also showed a mortgage ID which didn't  match any number that I could find.

I know the Institution would not contact me this way, therefore the mailing is likely fraud and thus so is the number.

Received paper, in the mail, SCAM letter. Looks legit, states loan amt, county, lender name, closing date. A “we’ve been attempting to contact you” and in big letters PLEASE CALL 877-505-0473 — In small print at bottom, “all info is obtained solely through public records”

Received a letter in the mail saying they have been attempting to contact me regarding a matter of importance. Total scam. Throw it in the trash if you get one. They are preying on uninformed people and the elderly.

I just received a letter from whomever stating that "We have been attempting to contact you regarding a matter of importance."  Please call 877-505-0473.  This information they have is from HUD and I'm trying to figure out how they obtained this information from a government agency.  From the fine print at the bottom, I believe they are an insurance company.  My suggestion is to NOT call that number.  And yes, some of us do recognize a SCAM.  Hope this helps someone.

I wonder if the letters being reported are similar to this one which bears this phone number and was posted online a few years back at the Northern Moraine Wastewater Reclamation District website.
The "fine print" at the bottom reads (emphasis added):
    Quote:
Not affiliated with or sponsored by any bank or lending institution. All information is obtained solely through public records, which may not be accurate or complete. By calling the number, you agree to allow a representative, who is solely responsible for complying with TCPA laws, to receive your number, mortgage info from public records, and your automated line answers, and to call and or text you about insurance products. If you do not wish to receive such calls or texts, do not call the number above. Standard messaging and data rates may apply.
By "insurance products" they are probably referring to home "warrantees".
Based on the (mostly vague) details of the "Chicken Little" posters here, it looks like the scheme is the same or very similar.

(And, as you read, yet another poster here validates my previous statements.)
