This is a FAKE number-- they claim to be Capital One but I just verified with an actual representative from Capital One that this is a scam and someone pretending to be affiliated with Capital One.

They stated they were a modeling agency from mystarkid

Like TJ above, I also received a call claiming they were from Capital One. I previously had a bad experience with someone doing the same thing and learned from the experience. If you get a phone call like this, call the number on your card instead.

They also left another number I could call, 800-887-8643, which also comes up as from Capital One on this site, however, Capital One verified these are not their phone numbers.

I just got a call from 1-877-539-1136 and the person left a message stating they were calling from Capital One regarding an important business matter. The first thing I did was check my accounts for a secure message since this is the way they usually contact you initially asking you to call them. None of my accounts with them had a message, then I googled the number and found this complaint board. I'm glad I didn't call the number.

It's really sad what people will stoop to in order to steal and misuse your information.

Actually, this is really Capital One.  I also got a from this number regarding disputed claims, and was suspicious.  I did have a disputed claim, but hung up the phone after googling this site, and before I gave out too much info.  Called Capital One on the back of my card, and they verified this number, transferred me to the same people I spoke with before, who verified my claim amount and advised me that my dispute was resolved.

Obviously a SCAM, and anyone who says they aren't must be part of the scam.
'Margaret' left a message, but she didn't know my name. When I called back she asked me for my account number. I said, "If you're Capital One you must know my account number," and hung up.

Just received a call from this saying they were Capital One and needed to talk about an "important business matter." I do have a pending dispute, but after reading the information here, I'll call the number on the back of my card.

This number is SAFE:
I received a voice message from 1-877-539-1136 with an alternative number 1-800-887-8643.  To be on the safe side, I called the Capital One main number on the back of the card instead.  After waiting for about 7 minutes for a representative, she told me that Capital One indeed left a voice message on my machine regarding a pending dispute.   So this was a legitimate call from Capital One.

I called that number too... It is Capital One. After giving them my SS# (saying it into their computer system), I was a little worried, since I usually make it a habit to call the number on the back of the card. Turns out they knew about a change that is being disputed on my Capital One card.

For me, this was a legitimate message from the dispute department at Capital One.  The message was very vague and the guy talked so fast, that I couldn't understand half of what he said.  Being very suspicious, I googled the number and found this website.  I then called the number on the back of my card (as you should always do).  They were able to verify that someone from the dispute department left the message and then transferred me to that department.

Again, always call the number on the back of your card just to be safe.

Got a call from this number with very long extension.  I returned the call thinking it was a collection agency due to a small medical charge Aetna has  not paid. They started asking for detained info so I hung up and called Capitol One direct.  Turns out it is a ligit number and they were calling me about a charge I disputed.

I received a voicemail message which told me to call back either at this number with a long extension or else at 1-800-887-8643, which they said was the number on the back of my card. I was suspicious because that's not the number on my card. I called the number that is on my card and at first, the agent reflexively said the call was not legit- until I mentioned that I had recently filed a dispute and she dug deeper and saw that it had indeed been a legitimate call.

I agree with the advice to always call the # on the back of your card, which is also what they told me when I was ultimately connected to someone in the fraud dept.

This is a legitimate Capital One Card but with the Dispute Department.! Legitimate

Capital One Fraud Department trying to get in touch with me to tell me a result of a dispute. I didn't answer, search for the number, end up calling back and getting my matter solved. Saved the number on my phone as a safe number now. So unfortunately that we have to decline and check who is calling us given the amount of fraud around nowadays. Anyway, matter solved, hope this post helps someone else :)

Wanted to add--I still recommend just ignoring the call and calling the number on your card.  It seems to be pretty easy to scammers to spoof any phone number they want these days.  I would still NEVER give out any information over the phone unless I placed the call myself.

Thanks, I have already been scammed once by this internet Fake phone #s. Is there any legal justice against this group? Class action suit?

I got a call from this number and it is regarding a claim.  We actually have a letter from Capitol One and that is the correct number for claims.
