- KayPeaFraud Attempt. Received two different calls from unlisted number, and the message gave this number to call back. It named my roommate as a defendant in fraud of a financial institution, but I am certain this did not happen. The caller said he was duly served, but that is wrong, because leaving a message on voice mail on the phone of someone not involved in any legal case does not constitute legal service. I know that someone attempted to send fraudulent checks to my roommate, which they wanted him to cash through his bank account, then send them money. But when you deposit a check like that, the banks hold it for 10 days, and you are supposed to send the money immediately, and then the check bounces from your account and you are left without any money, lots of fees, and you can be in serious trouble with the bank. These are attempts to defraud him of his social security. The checks he received (by next day air from back east, one a college in Ohio, and another a medical institution in Florida) were obviously fraudulent, and he took one to the bank to let them check it out. He turned it over to them. We researched the places the checks were drawn on and the names of the check signers. Those people did not exist at those business, and did not have an online footprint, either. "The first check signer died in the 1980s. I don't know what he did with the second check, and I think there was one more after that. They were obviously fraudulent checks printed on cheap lightweight printer/copier paper. So these people are now trying to harass him to get money out of him. I am getting threatening messages on my own phone because someone obviously researched the address we live at, and I'm not unlisted. I know this is not a real case, because if it were, he would not be able to use his bank.

- mbdefinitely a scam!!! Don't fall for it! They will tell you that you had an account with xxxxxx bank and that you bounced checks and if you dont pay them immediately you will be served and the least time you will get in prison is 5 years. It's a bunch of bull. DON'T FALL FOR IT! If you let them know you know they are a scam they tend to get pretty upset. I laughed and told them they were absolutely ridiculous and the guy I was talking to yelled at me and told me I was going to rot in prison! Real professional right! DONT FALL FOR IT!!!!
