Just got a call today. Guy identified himself as John Porter, with an "illegal complaint" against me and my social security number, extension 112, case number 123742. Seems like a scam. I'd be up for a class action law suit if enough other people with some evidence that these guys are frauds will join in. These guys need to get caught!!!

They called back. Now they claim it is a case of mistaken identity. They "Michael Rentoul" claim to be a debt collection agency. I've had about six cases of mistaken identity from debt collectors in about a month. I've started keeping a log. This seems like a fishing scam posing as debt collection. Annoys the hell out of me!!!

I've made a report to the FTC. If you're also the victim of a scam you should do the same. The better business bureau can't to anything. I'll keep a log of any other calls, and report them also. If you're thinking about any legal action, keep accurate records of everything. Judges love facts, hate opinions.

I just received a phone call from a man identifying himself as Corey Benson in reference to a complaint against me in regards to my SS#. Yeah big red flag went up. so I Googled the number and it looks like this is a total SCAM. Be careful!

You better double check to see if this debt is valid. They are collecting on HSBC credit cards which I just settled with them for 50cents on the dollar, or you can continue to be the scum debtors you are which we can blame for the downfall of our economy.

Received a call from a Gary King at this number, looking for someone who had this phone number at least 3 1/2 years ago. He provided her name and social security number, and said a complaint had been filed against her in county court and provided what he claims is the case number and said if she didn't respond promptly that they would indicate to the court she is refusing to cooperate and implied jail time could be forthcoming. I've repeatedly told other callers from this same number and others from various other numbers that this woman no longer has the phone number they are calling, that I have had the number for 3 1/2 years, that I should not be privvy to such information about her, and have asked them to stop calling. Apparently they don't listen too well. I do NOT know her and do NOT know how to contact her. I don't know how much clearer I can be with these people.

Just a follow up to my above post. I had some time to kill so I stopped by the county courthouse. The "complaint number" provided by Gary King from 877-573-2104 (his direct line came thru as 716-650-2640) is NOT a valid complaint/case file number with the county, despite Mr. King's allegation. The county clerk's office has no cases filed against the individual Mr. King was looking for. This would indeed appear to be a scam caller, trying to intimidate the person who had my phone number before me into paying up or giving out a cc number or something.

And another follow up.... Mr. King contacted me again today at 10:57 am, again looking for the same individual. I let the answering machine pick up. He again indicated that legal action had been taken against the individual he was looking for, provided a case number, and stated that if she did not return his call promptly she would be reported as uncooperative to the courts and would face jail time. He did not leave her ssn this time. I promptly returned his call, indicated that we had talked on 8/10/2010 and had told him that this woman did not have my phone number any longer, that I did not know her or know how to reach her, and that he had been instructed not to call again. I also told him that I had been to the county courthouse while at the DMV and checked up on his case number, that the courts had nothing filed against this woman or her ssn, and that the "case number" he provided and claimed was the court case number was not valid. Mr. King proceeded to curse me, call me a liar, tell me I didn't know what I was talking about, told me to get a job, claimed a recording which would prove he had not left a ssn the first time he called (I informed him that nowhere in his current conversation had he informed me that the call was to collect a debt and was being recorded, thereby a violation of the FTC debt collection practices) and then hung up on me. I called back and Mr. King answered immediately. He told me I was harassing him and that he was going to file legal action against me. I asked to speak with his supervisor and he again repeated his threat, but did transfer me to his supervisor, a Brian Evan. I provided Mr. Evan a very brief synopsis and instructed him again that NO ONE from Rubin & Yates is to phone this number again, or I would file a complaint with the Pendleton County sheriff as instructed by the clerk at the court office.

I got this phone number from my brother.  I have no idea how they got his number

I have a judement against me now because i didnt pay my hsbc credit card bill...alot of knowledge you have...you should probably contact them before the same thing happens to you IDIOT!!!

Pay your bills and you probably wouldnt receieve phone calls from debt collectors.

I called them, it was about a bill I owed. They were very easy to deal with, I worked out a payment arrangement and they said they would have it removed from my credit report once it was finished being payed. I was very happy with the outcome. Not sure why there are all these people complaining on here, i guess they just dont want to pay bills that they incur.

Do you pay any of them or do you have a 400 credit score. Im betting on the latter.

your funny what are they doing wrong? They are debt collectors obtaining payments on past due bills. You are a fool.

Received call from my ex mother-in-law saying a Don Hollister was calling asking for me, stating someone may be using my social security #. Obviously it's a scam. Debt or no debt, noone would be calling like that. Plus, I've been divorced for 9 years now. There is no way I would have my ex mother-in-laws info being wrote on any document I need to fill/turn in. Also, I received a text message from an unknown # about IRS/Tax debt relief. I wouldn't doubt if this was from them as well. Don't call them.

They called and left a message for a family member (that I do not reside with) and said that if the person requested did not call back within 24 hours to verify a legal claim with his SS#  then he will not be able to represent himself in whatever action the company did.  There are several things wrong with this message.  A big no no is they gave out personal information to someone other than the individual they were calling. They did not give the name of the company the represented only a name of another individual with no extention.

have the bank change your accounts. they will take it out of your account. these people a scamers. change your checking account. and do it fast....

i filed a complaint with the F T C. i have never owen a credit card, and they gave out info that wasnt true to my family. its not that people dont wont to pay there bills. people like me dont owe them. so im glad others payed theres but again theres people like me that are being scamed by these people.

This guy Corey Benson keeps calling my number harassing me about paying a bill that was paid over 6 months ago.  He continues to THREATEN me with some bogus case reference number.  This was paid with proof and a confirmation number - but this Corey Benson doesn't care - I do believe this is a scam!!!

i got the same thing but he threatend to me if i didnt get the papers when they serve me i will have a warrent out for my aresst the worst thing is i never had that credit card it wasnt even my last name but on my credit report he had no right to threaten n scare me like that im calling the bbb in the am they have no right to do this to someone
