- Statcan interviewer replies to MOIParanoia, DISTRUST. foolishness, really. Use the one brain cell you may own and think hard....would it be more cost efficient to send a human being out to every house in person to interview them? Wouldn't you love your taxes increasing to support that cost!!! It's a zillion times more cost efficient to phone people, takes a few minutes and the interview is done. perhaps you didn't complete all your census questions and that's why we called to fill in the rest. Do you have any clue about the purpose of collecting this info? Go view the video on the stat can website.
- Statcan nterviewer replies to A| 1 replyMoron if you didn't call it back how do you know it's a scam? If it was us calling we would then persist and call YOU back ntil we get the survey completed, especially if it's a mandatory survey.
- MikeThis is NOT statistics Canada. This is a scam. Beware!
- D.I got a call from this people today. As I was not to provide personal information over a phone call I did not not initiate they gave me a code and a ref number.
At least the call back number looks legit as it is listed in what seems to be a a stats canada web page

- LMy suspicions were raised when I got a call before 9am and another before 9pm on Victoria Day which is a Canadian National Holiday. Also, they are not allowed to call before 9am or after 9pm re business hours of Monday to Friday. When I called the number I mentioned this and was transferred to the supervisor where I indicated I was complaining to their head office and suspected it was a scam. Mike Pierce provided me his id number and was very pleasant and indicated had a tight deadline hence able to work stat holiday and weekends. I indicated once I got confirmation they were legit, then I would call back. I have reported all info and details of all messages and calls to Stats Can and they have supplied me with a Case number. We will find out if it is legit. There is a Stats Can website listing the 877-604-7828 number but until the Ottawa Stats Can office clears it with me, I will not respond.

- AliJust the fact that some Supposed "employees" of stats Canada come here and say that "yea it is legit" shows that this is a scam.
Yes the number is listed in the stats Canada web site, but read the page this survey to be wrapped up by spring 2012.
The survey was about children from 1 to 9 years of age. If you do not have one then it is a scam for sure.
What if the number is released by Stats Canada and these guys have gotten it.
Do not give them any info until they show they have some info about you that is correct, not just a phone number.

- tdates replies to Statcan nterviewerYou are a very rude person. After reading two replies from you, I would never want to talk to you in person, and am very surprised our government hires people with your attitude.
- deanfor over 1 year i get calls from thisanumber and similiar numbers asking for me saying they are stats can and for me to call back quote ref number. who r they and what do they want?
- Irene replies to GeorgeThe only information that is released is publicly available, not sold. All information that IS released is anonymous and in aggregate format, which means no individual answers are available. A lot of people rely on the information collected, most of which is NOT available "from the census" as some ignorant people keep saying. Most of the surveys they run are voluntary, but a few (LIKE the census) are mandatory because of how many GOVERNMENT departments, not to mention people like economists and universities, rely on the information that's collected.
No personal information ever gets released. Hell, even Canada Revenue and the police can't get individual information from StatCan. Knowing people who work in all 3 of those areas, that fact has been quite a source of amusement for me and aggravation for the first two. - Irene replies to GeorgeAnd as for paying you to take a survey: It's the GOVERNMENT. All of their money comes from TAXES. YOURS included. If they were to pay everyone who took a survey, that would mean they'd have to raise taxes in order to GET that money in the first place. And since I guarantee you would NOT be taking every survey, you'd be paying more in taxes for it than you'd be getting BACK for taking one survey. I'd rather take 10 minutes and answer a few simple questions than have to pay for other people's stupidity.
- Irene replies to CheyenneBN, or business number. They use it for business-related surveys.

- JamesThey call frequently from this 877.604.7828 number. They never state what the matter is regarding; thus I never return the call. Any person not known to me who leaves a voice message without any detail as to the nature of the call, and then directs me to call them, will be ignored. Apparently this number is Statistics Canada as it is listed on a web page for the Gov't of Canada.
