The caller claimed to be from Mendenhall and Associates and wanted to know if someone would be home because some legal documents like a court summons was going to be delivered.  They gave a case number too but would not disclose any info except a name that the documents would be delivered for.

They called me and I'm really nervous. Does anybody know if its real or not

I got a call from the processors company saying they wanted to verify my address to send a court document or summons and wanted to know if we'd be home. They said the company was Mendenhall and Associates and gave me a phone number of 800-697-7618. I haven't called it yet....it did scare me though.

Apparently, in my personal opinion, these people are scammers and liars.  
At the very least, they are in violation of the Fair Debt Collection Act, and I encourage anybody who is being hounded by these people to contact their state's attorney general to report for possible prosecution.  There are heavy fines that can be levied upon this company (if it really is one) and its employees for this type of behavior.  Monies can also be collected on behalf of the victims of these practices.  Unscrupulous scammers/collectors should be shut down and penalized.

SCAMMERS! Someone called a distant relative in another state from Mendhall and Assoc. from (877) 605-5414 claiming they had papers to serve. They asked for personal information, but gave no further information. They sound like they are fishing for personal information for identity theft. BEWARE!

Interesting, I just got a message from Mendenhall and Associates today. Funny enough they called a house number I don't use or put on any papers.

They also gave me a 1-800-697-7618 number to call back, but when I did it said it was closed. So who knows what they want. But they gave me a case number too. I haven't done anything illegal that I know of.

forgot to ask.... did anyone actually talk to them and see what they wanted?

I used to work here till they recently fired me they are [***] and should be sued  they make you do all this stuff and say just to make sure you don't get sued and if you do it's your fault. The legal documents are just to pay a debt they're not taking you to court if you refuse to pay all they do is keep calling you. Just tell them to shove the legal documents up there [***] and ignore them. :)

To the Anonymous person replying who worked there.  Are the legal documents to pay a debt for real?  Are they making this up?  I would think that if you were being served with papers, the process would be more legitimate.  How stupid to call the person to inform them ahead of time they are being served!  And furthermore, if you are serving someone with papers why would you ask for their address?  If it was legit, they should know the address.  How can this type of harassment be allowed to continue.  Could someone with authority please stop these people!!!!!

The same number called me wanting to serve a summons, they don't give employee info when asked for and don't have a website. They do claim to be a collection law firm, if that is so, I am pretty sure they are still not following fdcpa regs. here is a link I hope helps

I have been getting messages on my cell phone from "Mendenhall & Associates" looking for a "Doreen LASTNAME" (I won't reveal in case she really exists) and a case # and a "Please call 800 (not 877) 697-7618."

I called and talked to someone in a very crowded, noisy call center who was able to access Doreen's name based on the case number they had given me in their voice mail. I informed her that it was a wrong #. She wanted to know if I knew Doreen. "No." Then she said she would "remove my number from their system." Time will tell...

I've run across these types of calls more and more in the past year. Companies are buying up lists of old or new debts, calling anybody with the same name (or not) and trying to get money out of them. Check out the Clark Howard on radio or TV or on the web. OMG!! I just a called and they said the same thing, i called the 1800-697-7618 and was put on hold they wanted to verfiy my address and social. They left me on hold so long, the phone disconnected. IS this a scam? WTF

I actually got a call from a different number 443-219-0513 claiming to be from the US Postal Service stating that they had legal documents to serve me and that they wanted to know if I'd be home between a certain time period. I knew this was bullshis from the moment they claimed to be the USPS.

They also gave me an 800 number to contact with a case number. Since when does the USPS call anybody?

I think these people have crossed the line into illegal activity by posing as a real organization. I'm not sure who to contact but I'll be starting with my state attorney general.

They just called my landlord (who has an unlisted number) and told her that I listed her as a personal reference - which I did not.  I have NEVER given my landlords phone number out.  She is a sweet old lady and they were harassing her, lied to her and said they were coming to serve papers and gave her a case number.  ???  They left 800-697-7618 as a call back.  I called and got a closed message.  I am definately contacting my state attorney general.

So if China called President Obama and said we want to collect the money you borrowed back would the United States be deemed a "scammer" or would China be in violation of the FDCPA?

These guys called me and I did indeed owe the debt, I felt compelled to for fill my obligation to my own actions and I paid it off in full, 10 days later I received a paid in full letter in the mail and was able to vastly improve my credit score. I will not put in a good word for collections because, frankly they are an unliked industry. However a much necessary evil due to the fact they do really help our economy.

I received two calls for my sister in law asking me to contact her and to let her know she was going to receive court papers and they gave me a case number for her.  I thought it strange that they didn't ask me for her phone number or address but just wanted to know if she lived at my address.

I received a call not that long ago to my cell phone from a 603 area code asking me if I knew (my name) and I stated "NO". They said okay thank you and hung up. A short while after that my mother sent me a text message telling me I need to call this MendanHall and Associates, that they are trying to serve me with a summons and gave her a docket number. She thought that it was very odd, that they would be calling me with something like that. I came online here at work and looked up the name of this business and have came across all of these posts from everyone else. When I looked up the actual number they called from the internet said it was a mobile phone number. DO NOT CALL THE NUMBER BACK. It is a scam and they are looking for information. They called my mother's house from this mobile cellular number and gave her the 877 605 5414 to call back asap and they said it was very urgent. I will be reporting this to my local police department on my way home and hiring a lawyer if needed.

I went to my local state police department and they called this place and they said they were trying to serve a summons to court and needed to verify the last 4 digits of my SSN. He told them that I was in the police department and I was not going to give them that information and they needed to stop calling and doing what they are doing. He gave me a number to report this matter to the detectives who are in contact with the FBI and will be looking into this. He told me not to give out any information to these people.
