called from 248-507-4387.  Garbled message, could barely understand.  Do not state who they represent, so there is no need for me to call back.  If someone has a legitimate bill, state who you represent so that I can get my records and notes in order to have a useful, effective call.  They prey upon people by making threatening statements to scare the people that they called. I won't be calling them any time soon.

Same experience. But they have also taken over $6000 for an original debt of $1500. When I contacted them earlier this year, on my attorney's advice, they claimed I still owe another $3000, on this same account. There's no bound to how much these monsters will extract from you (me). I still haven't filed my taxes because she promised they'll take that again, too! This has been happening for minimum of 11 years. When I get my hands on the paperwork (court records), I hope that'll give me the power that I need. I really hope to sue them.

No debt collector can touch tax refunds.  You have been paying these crooks for 11 years?  Unbelievable!  Seriously, they never sent you anything?  You have an excellent FDCPA lawsuit.  The first thing you need to do is learn your rights.  Here is a start:

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site:  http://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
List of State AG’s offices:   https://800notes.com/faq/attorney-general

Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment.  If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt and we would all be the richer for it.  Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front):  http://www.consumeradvocates.org/
