- Horse Girl replies to SAfter having 2 mortgages and an equity line for almost 20 years, SunTrust will NEVER again get any business from us. I already closed out our checking account. We have never missed a payment and always pay within the 10-day grace period on our equity line, yet they call and harass us. I finally sent a cease and desist letter over a year ago, but they called today. We never thought about defaulting on either mortgage, even when the economy hit rock bottom and millions walked away from their responsibility and/or allowed foreclosure. Really sad they harass the "excellent" customers they have left. Only 4 more yrs. on one mortgage and we're trying to sell the other property we have, and a minimal balance on equity line, then we are done with "ScumTrust!!" And to think we, the taxpayers, had to bail them & other lenders out because they made loans/mortgages to people they knew couldn't pay!!
- Horse Girl replies to ThinnerWay to go!! You tell 'em!! I think any of us who owe them money are well aware when it's due. Do they contend they loan money to idiots?
- Horse Girl replies to hanseroniI call them "ScumTrust and ScamTrust," but SunDistrust is a good one too. I hate them. We should check with a credit union. Good idea.
- Horse Girl replies to Margaret in VirginiaToo funny!
- Horse Girl replies to JudyOh, I would LOVE to sue ScumTrust. I hate them for many legitimate reasons and especially for the harassing tactics they use on us when we are NOT late on payments.
- livid replies to turbScam or not, scumtrust either has insider scamming employees.. banks attract the biggest crooks to work for them,... or they are not keeping accountholders data secure. that cheap overseas contractor will cost them dearly.. another wachovia.
- RobinYes, it is a call from SunTrust....and they will call you Every Single Month if your bill is not paid by the DUE date; even if it is not late. They don't care enough to have a real person do it, so they have an automated system take care of it for them. That way when the next market bubble bursts takes place, they can look at the government and say, 'well, we had this in place'. One of their management people actually stated that 'SunTrust never saw is (the last burst) coming'. Which is a direct reflection of the banking business itself. BEWARE out there!

- annoyedIf it IS Suntrust, they're calling me even though payment has been made. There have been a few times when payment was late, but in those cases the caller ID SAID Suntrust, and a message was left. These callers don't leave messages. If you have an account with Suntrust and think this may be why you are getting the calls, just call Suntrust directly. There something fishy about these calls. (No offense to fish intended.)

- PamSunTrust is evasive and liars. They not only call and hang up but they do not return calls when they say they will. They try to hold you hostage by saying you have to pay for their mistakes. Not this time. Now I have involved congress and another federal agency. Next it is fraud charges. They earned it. They worked hard for it. Go SunTrust go.......down the drain!

- Pam replies to JudyI am. They stole $10,.000 out of my IRA.
- MegannI called a local Suntrust about the call I rec'd today (they hung up on my vm after 2 seconds) and they confirmed that Suntrust would not call and just hang up. You would get an automated message about your account (if there's an issue) and a phone number or some sort of information about nature of call and how to get back in touch with them. So, these calls are obviously scammers. My computer was hacked in early July, so I am so diligent now about everything and just make it a policy - if I don't recognize the number, I don't pick up. Let's be honest, people, if it were a bank, and you owed them money, they would definitely make sure you get a message and information as to how to get in touch with them. They aren't going to just hang up. This has got to be an elaborate scamming ring. These people are very sly, so beware of them convincing you they are SunTrust. I would go into a local branch and raise hell in person, if you do believe it's someone hired by SunTrust to bug you - but that really doesn't make sense. Especially if your payment isn't even late. This type of practice would only run off customers.

- CEIf this IS Suntrust, and an attempt to collect a debt, multiple calls daily with no message left would appear to violate the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, in that they would fall under "Harrassment." I quote: (This is from http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection An FTC summary of the Act:
What practices are off limits for debt collectors?
Harassment
. Debt collectors may not harass, oppress, or abuse you or any third parties they contact. For example, they may not:
use threats of violence or harm;
publish a list of names of people who refuse to pay their debts (but they can give this information to the credit reporting companies);
use obscene or profane language; or
repeatedly use the phone to annoy someone.
Clearly, I'm looking at that last item. I believe that multiple phone calls daily does indeed amount to "repeatedly using the phone to annoy someone" when no message is left. And there IS recourse-this is from the same web page.
" Do I have any recourse if I think a debt collector has violated the law?
You have the right to sue a collector in a state or federal court within one year from the date the law was violated. If you win, the judge can require the collector to pay you for any damages you can prove you suffered because of the illegal collection practices, like lost wages and medical bills. The judge can require the debt collector to pay you up to $1,000, even if you can’t prove that you suffered actual damages. You also can be reimbursed for your attorney’s fees and court costs. A group of people also may sue a debt collector as part of a class action lawsuit and recover money for damages up to $500,000, or one percent of the collector’s net worth, whichever amount is lower. Even if a debt collector violates the FDCPA in trying to collect a debt, the debt does not go away if you owe it."
Imagine if everyone who posts here and does have a debt with Suntrust which may or may not be late got together and actually DID this.
There are less drastic and faster ways to stop the calls, however. I suggest you check out the link above, or if you're concerned that the link isn't legit, just google "Fair Debt Collection Practices Act" and read the summary. This stuff has GOT to stop. - CENumerous calls. IF this IS Suntrust, they are violating the fair debt collection practices act: (summary here: http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection). Excerpt: What practices are off limits for debt collectors?

I believe that repeated calls leaving no message are intended to annoy; that being the case, each call could be a violation. - David MI just received a call from someone identifying herself as from Suntrust Bank. She asked for the last 4 of my social security #, and I politely explained that she was the one who called me, and that I do not provide personal information by phone to people I do not know. She would not explain the nature of the call either, just saying that to protect my privacy she could not provide any information until she has the last 4 of my social security #. She seemed frustrated and was a bit demanding. After pushing her for some details,she suggested I visit a branch or call the customer service # for more information. I called 800.786.8787 (800.SUNTRUST) and the call center rep could not find any reason Suntrust Bank was trying to reach me.
Full disclosure, I did make a payment on my Suntrust Credit Card yesterday that was 3 days late. Probably a misguided debt collector, or a scam.- Caller: Suntrust Bank
- David MUpdate: This call is from Suntrust Bank Collections. I emailed the bank through the secure email system provided through online banking, and got the following reply. Still, I have no idea why they would call for 3 day late payment on a credit card, that was already paid the day before anyway.

- milesScam! Suntrust verified they will never call via outbound and then ask for personal information. And they verified that this number (877-654-9211) is not a SunTrust number. These jerks are very persistent and will let you talk with their "manager" which is probably the king of jerks running this scam. Now when they call, I answer, and the first question I ask is "can I have your social security number and address so I can visit you" and then I just start asking them random questions, like "hey, where are the checks I ordered" or "what's up with the non-Suntrust ATM fee". I NEVER will give them any information but I want to waste their time as much as they are wasting everyone else's time.

- MLI've never even heard of SunTrust bank and I'm late on nothing. Scam.
- MikeJI have a loan with Sun Trust. I called them direct and was told that this number does NOT belong to them. Individual I spoke with said that they would forward this information to their fraud division.
- CeeI've blocked this number, but get one ring when they call. I don't believe it's Suntrust. I have just done a total refinance of my home and answered a real call from Suntrust last week-it showed up as 800 service. I informed them that the equity line I have with them will be fully repaid by the 14th of this month; I spoke with a woman whose name and employee ID number I wrote down, and she noted the information--so they have no reason to be calling me. I also told the woman that they would do better if caller ID noted them as Suntrust. It was NOT from this number, which has been blocked for several months. Interestingly, they DO seem to notice when a payment is late--or when they think a payment is late, as would be the case with me if they didn't know about my conversation with the REAL Suntrust. I would be VERY cautious about this number.
