Someone called me about some loan I owed that i have no clue about. They are acting like a District attorney trying to get ppl to pay money but the money million dollar question is, how did they get so much information about me.? And why were they calling my dads house looking for me? I never stayed with him....

There are criminals out there who make their living gathering information about people from illegitimate sources and then selling it.  Your SSN could be in a database somewhere.  Hackers hack the DB (which isn't that hard if you know how), do a massive info dump and they have all the info at their finger tips.  How do you think all the reverse phone lookup sites work?  You pay a fee and they go out and pay someone for the info.

Ask them to send you a letter.  If they refuse to then they are not legit.  If it is something that is serious then they would send it certified.  

I received a call regarding a debt from 2000.  I was told I needed to speak with the Lead Investigator Michael Wright.  After speaking with Mr. Wright & explaining my situation he was able to resolve this in my favor.  I've had serious medical issues that are chronic & progressive.  He was so kind & understanding & didn't make me feel worse than I already did about the situation.  I want to sincerely thank him for his handling of my situation.  He is a sincerely nice & conpassionate man.  Thank you again.  Sincerely, Colleen Koester

I sure hope you did not pay them for a debt dated back from 2000.  I am pretty sure that the debt has passed the statute of limitations period.

I received a call today from a guy saying he was a courier for alternative something resources. The call was for my son. They left message saying he would be going on his job in 48 hours and my son should have two ids with him for court papers to be served. I called number back, spoke with Christine who said my son owed a credit card company called gateway money. If not paid it will triple and court and legal fees totaling over 11,000 dollars. Please help me understand. My son has never had a credit card. Did do business in 1999 with gateway computers, but that had been it. Help me please.

I just got a call from them also.  same story.  Let them try to come to my work.  I am a stay at home mom.

It has been over 48 hours.  he said he would show yesterday between two and five.  NEVER SHOWED.

  I would like to share my experience regarding Alternative Dispute Resolutions who call from 877 658-0362. About 8 weeks ago, I received a call (blocked number) from a "courier" claiming to have legal documents for me. The address to which he was suppose to deliver these documents was an address from over 8 years ago. I told him the address was incorrect. He said I needed to contact the company who hired him. He also claimed he did not know what the documents were concerning, and he gave me the 877 658-0362 and a case number. When I had not yet called the next day, this "courier" called and left me a very intimidating message claiming that he (with an escort) was going to serve these documents to me at my place of employment if I did not contact the company who hired him. After hearing his message and still uncertain what this was all about, I immediately pulled my car over and called the 877 number.
  Long story short, the lady explained to me that there was a new law that allowed creditors to pursue an individual for an (alleged) debt not regarding the supposed amount, but for fraud. She then went into the "you can pay this amount today, or this amount within 30 days, etc." script. She pushed and pushed for me to give her a bank card number right then and there. I told her that I needed to see the documentation and she offered to email it to me. I told her I would check for the email when I got a chance. That evening, I did my own research, and talked to a couple of friends who know about debt; in fact, one of these friends previously was a debt collector.
  With my newly acquired information, I called her back the next day. The more questions I asked her, the more red flags went up for me. I asked her again when this supposed debt was charged off. She answered in 2004. I then asked her "Hasn't the statute of limitations expired?" She replied,  "Absolutely. But, we're not pursuing the debt, we're pursuing for fraud." However, the amount she was asking for just happened to be the amount of the alleged debt. She then placed me on hold to review my file. I was then transferred to a man, who sounded an awful lot like the "courier" who called me. He said, "Yes, the statute from the original date had expired, but that a payment had been made in 2011." If a payment on this supposed debt had been made in 2011, it would have started the 7 year clock over again. I asked him to send me all the documentation, including information about the supposed payment, to my post office box so that I could have my attorney take a look at it.
  It has now been nearly 2 months, and I have yet to receive any documentation. The reason I came across this page is because today I received another call from a "courier" who gave me the 877 658-0362 number again. This time he also left me another intimidating message, but included a direct extension to reach him. My bottom line opinion is this company uses illegal and scare tactics to get people to give them a credit or debit card immediately. There's no telling how many people actually have given this company payments without doing research. Since all situations vary, my advice is to ask for a hard copy letter, know your rights, and be aware of the statute of limitations regarding any debt whether it is legitimate or not. Personally, I think this is a scam of sorts. Hope this helps. If they called you once, they will probably call you again.

It is a scam.  As for her claim that "there was a new law that allowed creditors to pursue an individual for an (alleged) debt not regarding the supposed amount, but for fraud." - that's just ridiculous!  Just another way these scammers attempt to scare people into paying a bogus debt, debt that has already been paid off, or even a debt that is owed - but not to the caller.  Per the FDCPA, you should not pay any caller who refuses to mail - do not accept email or fax - proof of debt/proof they can legally collect said debt.  Refusal to mail this documentation within five days of their initial call to you is a violation of federal law.  And, per federal law - the FDCPA, if they can't mail this mandatory documentation to you, you should not pay them.  Please do report these losers to the FTC, FBI and your state's Attorney General.

About a week ago, I received a call from a blocked number, which I did not answer.  The caller, identifying himself as "Dave Wolf" left a voicemail message saying that he was a "courier" who had legal documents for me -- service of papers notifying me of a lawsuit filed against me.  He said that he, along with an "escort" for his protection, was going to serve these documents to me within 48 hours at my place of employment and that I needed to immediately contact the "filing party"  in order make arrangements to avoid being served. He claimed he did not know what the lawsuit was concerning, but said that the matter required my "immediate attention".  He gave me the 877- 658-0362 phone number and a case number, F-1573. I concluded that it was a fraudulent call and let it pass without calling the 877 number.  That was the end of it -- no Wolf at the door, so to speak..  

This is my story almost to a tee. Of course some details are different, but the one that sticks out is: I will be served papers to appear in court.

After I did my research I too called them back and every questions I asked, was obviously making them uncomfortable. Still haven't received anything in the mail from them.

If they won't send you any info, then it is a scam. I asked them for their address and all I got was a PO BOX number and then they hung up.
