I got a pop-up on my computer too.  Asked me to call that number.  I did not call, but there is nothing I can do on my computer.  The pop-up "froze" the computer.  I turned it off (turned the power off).  In a few minutes tried to turn-on the computer, but the pop-up screen is still there and it does not allow me to do anything.  Cannot Shut Down.  Had to turn the power off again.  How can I get rid of that pop-up screen?!?

If you have the install disk of your antivirus product, see if it has a mode to clean your computer while booting from the disk, or using a minimal boot from your operating system.  You will need the detailed instructions.

I believe this is a scam.

Yes, I just got this number pop-up on my screen while search on Bing.
I was able to do Control-Alt-Delete and bring up the process and 'End task'.
    Obviously, this is a scam.

I received a noticed on my computer stating to call this number and that I have a virus, when I did the person on the phone was from India and could not understand him at all and asked for a supervisor which then he got really upset and informed him that he was a scam artist and I do not believe that I have a virus, so if you receive something that states window network defender do it yourself under your security and do not call this number because it is a scam.

There is a very good chance the scammer is in India or Pakistan.  Therefore the US has no jurisdiction there.

Thanks MJG. Seems like toll free 877 would still be US based even if forwarded.

That number can also be computer spoofed - faked- or they are using MagicJack or VOIP.

I was on EBay looking at an item on my laptop. I clicked on the image to look at the item better and then this blue screen with a pop up message came up. Said the same message to call this number and I could not do anything else on my computer. I had to remove the battery (I know that is not the right thing to do, but I could not exit out)! I did not call because this feels like a scam and I don't want whoever is on the other side of the phoneline to have my number.

Clicked on a website looking for a free movie and the browser locked up and gave this phone number. I panicked, and opened

the Google browser thinking that this was a Windows 10 edge problem. I called the number thinking that I had a virus that

was going to destroy my computer. I was then directed to LogMeIn (an interface that allows another person access to your

computer) after the person on the phone showed me a file csrss.exe and sent me to a web site showing that this could be a

Trojan virus.  I paid the money. They employed a free trial version to scan my computer and didn't even finish the scan. I

even spent time talking to the technician thinking that he didn't know that he was involved with a scam. The first person I

spoke with said that Windows Defender wasn't sufficient to stop malware and the technician said that Windows Defender was

okay.  I called the bank to cancel but it is the weekend.  I will call again on Tuesday.

I suggest you go to the police and file a report of fraud. While your local police cannot do much, the report will help you convince the bank to cancel or reverse that charge. Some people have complained their bank would not.
