It is the collection department at Ally Financial. They said they may leave messages with the rep's name and call back number, but may not give their company name.

This is a common ploy by criminals attempting to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged, go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished, be sued, and a variety of other variations on this,  all for an alleged or nonexistent debt.  One of the tricks they use is to call your work place repeatedly in an attempt to shame you into paying.  They also use the “process server” who calls and claims he is going to serve you, but then says you could avoid it by calling another number.  Now why would a “process server” want to do you, a stranger, a favor, and at the same time not get paid to deliver the papers?

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

Message said they were calling for me regarding a name I did not recognize nor do I have any business with but to please call back the number and ask for a specific extension. Caller said her name was Kiana and sounded like she was from the southern US. Called the number she gave back and the recording said it was allied financial and to input my acct # or SSN. I pressed # until transferred to a male who sounded like they were from another country (Philippines, perhaps - I work with a lot of call centers and that's my best guess). He said I had to call another number (855-something), which i refused to do. I called back and what sounded like the same person said he would remove me from the list, whatever that is. All without giving my name, SSN, etc. SOunds like a scam to me!

I got a call from this number yesterday, asking for Person A (who is my bf) and Person B (his dad). Although they didn't say the company name, I do see lots of people saying this is Ally Financial, which IS the company that gave Person A and B the loan. FURTHERMORE, I did try calling them about a week ago, which explains why they have my number. Don't know why people think it's a scam, everything checks out in my case!

Tried to call but there is no means to enter an extension number, the people that answered speak with broken English and keep asking for an account number or social security number. This number has been calling my cell phone numerous times per day, every day for the past 2 months. Never left a message, save for 3 seconds of nothing on my voicemail. I have had zero dealings with Ally so am not sure why they are constantly calling.

I received a call from 877-713-5082 and rejected the call for being an unfamiliar phone number.  The person calling left a voice message and identified himself on the voice message as OD Phillips.  He did not say the name of the company.    The person leaving the voice message claims he's looking for someone that has my last name.  There isn't a single person in my immediate or distant family with the first name he's referencing.          A quick search of the Internet shows that 877-713-5082 belongs to Ally Financial LLC, a so called "debt collector."
