- Damn peopleThese people actually called my phone claiming that I wrote a bad check back in 2008 on a closed account. I never had checks for any of my accounts. They called my sister harassing her and telling her to write a statement against me because i used her as a reference without her knowledge. He was very rude and told her she is "one of those difficult kind of people". Who are these people and what do they want harassing people after they called me and I told them I have no knowledge of what they are referring to and to send me the information, yet they couldn't do that.

- Crystal| 1 replyThey have called me numerous times and left messages with a "case number" which according to the court doesn't exist and are threatening me with fraud. They have called my mother and told her I am going to jail for fraud and they want to know what my intent with this is. I looked up the company with the BBB and they have had numerous complaints filed against them. They have an F rating. Also, it is illegal for a bill collector to threaten you with jail time and criminal charges for debt.

- CWG40 replies to JARR| 1 replyYes it is a big scam. If someone is going to file a civil case against you, normally there would have been a period of negotiation between your attorney and the attorney for the other side. You'd be aware of the civil controversy. You would not receive a cold call telling you a case has already been filed.
No case has been filed against you. You can go down to the local courthouse civil division and check it out. These people t throw around a lot of phony legal terms trying to scare you. Don't let them do it. If they have a valid debt, tell them to send you a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good. They won't do it.
They throw around the word "fraud" to make you think there's some kind of criminal matter going on. Only public prosecutors handle fraud cases. Debt collectors have nothing to do with courts, police or anything concerning law enforcement. Debt collectors have no power of arrest.
