I received a call from this number - SCAM all the way!   This is the third time they have tried to get me to let them into my computer.  The guy, "Calvin from Texas" had a very thick Pakistani (or such) accent.  As with the others on this blog, he was  from the, "Windows Technical Support Unit".  I asked him many questions, keeping him from his scamming job.  There were so many red-flags that waived through the conversation.  Do not trust this.  There is no "Windows Technical Support Unit" that makes contact without you prompting them for service.

On 1/29/13 I rec'd a call from Tech Plaza saying that Microsoft no longer services my windows xp and that they could service my computer for $99 a yr but I could get 5yrs for the price of 3yrs. Being gullable and not computer literate and a sr citizen I went for the deal. They also told me of all my viruses and fixed them. I had various issues with my email and internet and when I called them they fixed my issues. Over a month ago I rec'd a call from Tech Plaza and was told that they had to give me a refund because they could no longer service my computer. In order to get my refund I had to go to my computer and press two keys to pull up a form for my refund. When I did this they were then in my computer but I wasn't sure what was going on. A box appeared with various pay options and then a western union form appeared. I then became very suspicious and started asking questions and I wouldn't do what they asked. Their response was don't worry it's ok just put your password in (which I wouldn't) and before I knew it my screen showed a padlock and they said there, your locked out of your computer and if you don't give us $300 then you won't be able to use your computer!!!!!! I hung upon on them because I was scared... I'm not able to use my computer and had to buy a new one and I lost some very important documentation. I called 877-753-9167 and asked them if they called me to give me a refund and they said no and that I shouldn't have listened to them I told them that it wasn't tech plaza. They tried to get me back into my computer but couldn't so I told them that I  wanted my refund back and they said you can't have it because I had the service for more that 6 months. They got nasty with me because I kept insisting they give me my $ back and they said they would have a supervisor call me back in an hour. They didn't call so I called back the next day and they said it would take awhile to get the refund. Now someone from tech plaza is calling from 1 700-110-0382 to give me my refund. They wanted me to download something called team viewer in order to get my refund. I started to do it but said I had to go and I would do it later. I just didn't feel comfortable with this whole situation. They are still calling from the 1-700# but i'm not answering their calls. They also are calling my cell phone which I think I may have given to tech plaza when they first called.  I don't know if they're  all the same people. All of these people are hard to understand and appear to have a Pakistani accent. I don't know who to call to report this on going issue. I had to cancel my credit card etc. because I don't know if they got any of my information off the computer...This is all BULL S.................that these people can get away with this!!!!!!!

This one had all the answers when I asked him for phone # and physical address.
I knew it was a scam up front when he said he was calling about my computer and I
asked him if he meant my Toshiba and he said that was the one.
I do not have a Toshiba.  this crazy accented guy's name is "Duke Frances."

Just got another phone call from some foreigner saying he was calling about my computer and all the errors I was generating and that he wanted to help me. I kept asking him to say again because I couldn't understand. Then asked him who he was with, again asked him to repeat. I asked why he was calling and he said again he was seeing errors from my computer. The scary thing was that he knew my name.
I ask if I could call him back and he gave me a telephone number to reach him. I ask where he was located and he said some town in Texas. I ask him to repeat again and he was beginning to get aggravated.
I ask why he was calling me and he said again he was seeing errors on my computer. I then said, "that's strange, because I don't have a computer."
Then he got mad and started asking why I ask for his phone number and why I didn't tell him at first that I didn't have a computer.
I told him I was just trying to waste as much of his time as I could and keep him on the phone.
He started cussing me out and calling me names and I said, "Could you repeat that, I couldn't understand you."
    Then he hung up.
Here's the number he gave me: 1-877-753-9168

This scumbag company appears to be preying on the elderly.   They have contacted my mother numerous times who is in a large retirement village.

I called them trying to understand their pitch.  I played "dumb" and it was laughable how they tried to explain how my Mom's computer had contacted them for help.

People like this deserve a special place in hell for trying to steal money from the innocent.

Oh, and based on the quality of the call, it's fairly obvious this 877 # points to an IP bank somewhere on the Internet.   I have no idea where in the world I was talking to someone, but am willing to bet it's not TX!!!

Hope the FCC or someone can track them down.   But highly unlikely.

    Consumer beware.

same thing. I've been in computers for 25 years so I took the opportunity to have some fun. I acted very scared and all in all wasted about 45 mins of Graces' time before I said my phone was dying and I had to call them back. Funny thing is I was running linux and I kept telling her her commands were not working. sigh...

    Skeptical
I got a call tonight from an unknown number, I answered because this is what my son's number often comes up as, a woman named Lisa was on the phone, she had a heavy accent and said the internet coming into my house was hacked, I asked her what company she was calling from and she mumbled something and then said clearly  "go to your computer"  I told her I couldn't do it right now and to give me her number and I would call her back. She was very confused about the number and gave me too many numbers. I asked her where she was calling from and after some grumbling she said Texas, I said I had several computers which one was she referring to, again she was very confused and finally said " windows" I think someone was listening and feeding her the answers. I asked for her phone number again and she said 1 877 753 9167.

The call was masked as "3010". Woman with Indian accent said that she has been getting notifications from my computer... so I asked her what company shes from ("Yes m'aaaam") and what her callback number is (18777539167).

tldr: The same old remote into the pc scam.

These people called me today(may 6, 2015).....thank goodness my instincts kicked in and I hung up and googled the number (and came to this site)!!!.....-THANK YOU ALL  for your posts WARNING ME NOT TO TRUST THEM!!)
Then, i got scared--- because i didn't know, if what the guy instructed me to do--up to the point of actually hung up, had given him access to my computer or not.....
i didn't know if doing the "windows"  + RUN and entering 'eventvwr', and 'custom view' & looking at the warning "Error" lists and all that the had somehow allowed him access (because he seemed to know exactly what I would be on my maintenance/local task Host and 'custom' files- come to find out these are common/standard things----NOT VIRUSES as he would have me believe----and this is part of their ways to convince victims that they can see viruses on our systems- so they MUST be with the Windows helpline--yeah right).... so, being the amateur computer user that I am, I was panicking!!!!
then i typed in something like "windows run & eventv" and "eventvwr"- into google and came upon a site ( a blog from new zealand i think--yes the scam is international!!!!) .................that lays out the STEP-BY-STEP process.... and words of 'assurances' they use to gain our trust....
THIS WEBSITE REALLY EXPLAINS what EACH STEP did, what they were TRYING to do AND HOW FAR you actually ALLOWED  them ACCESS TO:    here's the address, if anyone's curious...

    .*****https://blog.malwarebytes.org/fraud-scam/2013 ... d-and-trash-pc/

it was only through reading this that I found out that unless I ended up going to something called 'teamviewer"and allowing access, that I was in the clear..... and of course I ran my McAfee protection---just in case! :)

I received three calls from them today.  Twice I was not home and my sister told them to call back.  The caller asked for my father on the first call, who has been dead since 1991.  When I spoke to him, he said that his name was Matthew and he had a very thick Indian accent.  I told him that I could not understand him since it was a very poor connection and that he should give me his number so I could call him back (1-877-753-9167).   I put the number in Google and found these postings.  Needless to say, I will not be calling him back.

This has happened to me so many times with these scam artists I don't know how to get off of their list.  If anyone answers your phone who doesn't know this is a scam you could be in trouble...I stopped payment to them from my credit card when my caregiver gave in...since then they have continued to call.

They called me on Wednesday.  They knew my last name.   They said I was a Windows registered user and there were corrupted files they traced to my IP address.   (I have no idea how they would have done that.)  They wanted to help me remove the corrupted files, because not correcting the issue could cause my entire computer to not work.   I had a problem with my computer a couple weeks before where my computer would not start, and I had to put it in safe mode and return it to the last date it worked, so I initially listened to what they said.    They wanted to 'walk me through' fixing it.   I told them my phone was not in the same room as my computer.   He then asked me if I had a second phone and I said no (I had a cell but did not want to go onto the site).   I made it clear I would NOT give him any remote access to my computer.   He said 'that is not what we want to do'.   (why would I need to enter a password to delete anything from my own computer).
I then asked him to give me detailed directions for fixing the issue when my nephew is around to help me.   I also asked him why I could not just use the antivirus software to correct the problem.  His answer was that it would not work.  That made me very suspicious.
He said he was in Sugarland Texas, but he had a foreign accent which I had trouble understanding.  He told me to call back at 1-877-753-9167 and ask for Travis.
I will not be calling him back and would appreciate knowing where to report his attempt to get control of my computer.
I do wonder how he got my phone number and name.

You can file a complaint with the fcc (fcc.gov) and give them as much information as possible. Also alert your credit card company (s) and bank/credit union. Answer the calls from these people and tell them that you've reported them to the fcc and fbi. Let them know that you know they're scammers and to stop calling.

Got a call stating that my computer was infected and that it was downloading all kinds of information.  Claimed he was from Tech Plaza and that it involved Windows 7.  He knew I was on the Do Not Call List.  I told him I never responded to telephone calls.  There were too many scams going around.  He kept trying to convince this was no scam.  Kept wanting me to go and sign on my computer.  I stated that I only responded to mail.  He said there were too many people to contact by mail.  Could hear calls in the background tried to claim these were people calling to have their computers fixed.  Too bad I said.  Said it wouldn't cost me too much to have problem corrected.  Told him I wasn't worried about problem and hung  up/
