- Proud New Yawker replies to newyorker| 1 replyI just received a phone call from an unknown number, telling me that my windows computer has been compromised. The guy on the other line had a very strong accent. I couldn't understand at times what he was saying. I asked him for his number and where he was calling from. He gave me his phone number and told me that he was calling from Sugarland Texas. I got on my computer and googled Tech Plaza in Sugarland, Texas. It came up that it's a scam. I told him to stop wasting my time and other peoples time trying to take money from them and I hung up.
BTW, I don't have a windows computer. I have a MAC Pro. I told him that I don't have a windows computer and he said really? He still tried to scam and I'm so grateful that my gut was telling me that it's a scam from the minute I answered the phone. So sad that this exists. I hope whoever fell for this gets their money back. I am going to report this. - KitJust hung up the phone with "Leon" calling from 1-877-753-9167, who indicated he had spoken with my husband the day before, and was calling me at his request (I don't think so!) When I asked for his phone number he provided it, said he was calling in relation to a problem with Microsoft's Centralized Server. I asked for his physical address and he provided Sugarland, Texas. I asked for street address and he asked why I needed it; I told him he sounded like a scammer. I wanted to check him out on BBB; he asked if I knew of any complaints. Said he could provide his company's website and would walk me through the 'problem.' I asked him to give me the website name and I would check it out and call him back if I needed him; he replied it wouldn't work that way; I needed to get on my computer and he would walk me through a process to uncover the problem. I'll bet! Def scamming.

- cilia replies to LLLillySame thing happened here today, July 21, 2015. Guy said his name was Kevin Johnson, called to "fix" the computer. I have had too many of these calls to even want to talk to him, but I did call back - and he answered, which is unusual. These guys are getting more and more clever, and as long as some people are following their directions and turn on their computer, they will keep this up. Stay safe out there in cyber space, and do not let these people fool you!
- Renate SchulerReceived similar call , same phone number as above…from Tech Plaza = Window Computer, that I had a virus, and a technician could help if I go to my computer…her name Emely Wilson would show me, when I asked of her identity and wrote down all info, from Texas when I asked her, " how come you called from overseas?" (here is the # 2-092-173-6470, if this helps came up on my phone) she said the phone call goes thru a few places in order to safe money …and a technician would call me back later, he has to sort it out in her indian accent ..and her ID was 21W2 …it just happened one hour ago and I think it's a scam when I found your page confirming all this to me …thank you for helping the consumer and our identity ! What a wasted time they put us thru with scams ...

- marberCall came through as unknown name. The person wanted access to my computer to show me the problems that they say it has. When I asked how they found the problems, the person said that they receive direct reports from Windows that tell them the problems. I found that to be very suspect. He then offered to take over my computer and to show me the problems. When I asked what then, he said that they would assist me to rid my computer of the problems. When I asked whether there then was a fee to do that, he attempted to dodge the question. Finally, after much repetition of the question, he said there would only be a fee if they found a problem. As you can see, this made no sense if they already knew the problems. I said that I had someone to take care of my computer and hung up. This is a scam!!!

- Mary MegGot a call from "private caller" but when pressed gave number as 877-753-9167, company name as Tech Plaza and her name as Emily Wilson. Asked where calling from, and she said Texas. Asked why Texas when Microsoft is in Washington. Said they were contacted with Microsoft. Was an autodiler call, as it took saying "hello" several times before there was a response. Claimed my Windows computer was sending error messages. Which version of Windows, I asked. Windows HP she responded. I said that is not a Windows version. Which version? Windows 7, she said. OK, I said, I need to take down your information and verify with MSoft that you are legitimate. That is when she gave the the company name, etc., which I challenged as it did not sound like a company name. She insisted it was. Yeah, right.
- Caller: "Tech Plaza"
- JeanieI got the call and they scanned my computer and said that my firewall was 85% damaged. The gentleman gave me his name and said he was a manager, Jonathan Matthews, he offered me the services and I told him could not afford it and was not interested. I called the number back again (877-753-9167) and asked if it was a scam and was told they are a computer repair company that receives reports from the computer. I don't know what to think. He seemed legitimate and everything that showed up on my computer he explained what it was.

- Ken CampbellI received a call from this number saying my computer had been infected and I needed to take care of this problem NOW!
I asked for his name and phone number....he said his name was Kevin Johnson and he had a very thick Indian accent and he provided the same number saying I could call and ask for him. I told him I would call Windstream (my internet provider)

- Hellfire 65received a call from Emily who stated she was calling from the tech Squad@ Microsoft and they had detected a serious virus on my computer. I asked first of all how did you my information and how did you know about any virus. I was told
all Microsoft customers were being contacted and their computers checked. Microsoft is picking up this tab and all I had to
do was press these three buttons(she told me which ones) and give her remote control access to my computer and she
could clear the virus. I asked her why she only had 5 numbers in her telephone # when she called, she stated she was calling from Microsoft Internet Line but she would give me the direct to where she was calling from and her ID#. I then told
her I would have my son check to see if there were any virus, Emily became extremely hostile and told me I was making a
big mistake and she could pull contract with Microsoft and have me dropped as I could be spreading this virus. Wow such
an attitude, she gave me her# with ID and told me to call her when I was ready to cooperate. Emily 877-753-9167 ID 2123.- Caller: Tech Squad from Microsoft

- KopolymerI had to laugh that this company continues to call my home about my computer sending out viruses. My mother answered this last time, and handed me the phone.
"Eric" stated that the computer was sending viruses. As many of the others here have commented, I asked him which one was the culprit, and to please provide me with the mac address of the infected computer. He didn't have a clue what I meant.
I am a Windows Certified Technician. And all of the computers in this house are fully secured, most likely better than the Pentagon.
Don't mess with a true techie!! - CatsMomma replies to Proud New YawkerJust got the same call. Told him I was not having computer errors, and I didn't need or want their service. Then hung up. Shouldn't have wasted my time even answering an 'Unavailable' name and 'Unknown Number. My bad.
