- WolfmanJack replies to anonymous2A lot of times it comes in on the ads either when they load or you click on one. Which is why I use a browser that had ad blocker add ons, I have Java and Flash disabled as well, those are also magnets for that stuff.
- John replies to ScammedSCAM ALERT
Called the so called microsoft emergency support center at 877-767-550 for help as the pop up screen required.
I called knowing full well this was a scam. Took a great deal of time playing with the phony technicians.
I did not give either access to my computer. I had both repeat themselves numerous times to waste their time.
Comcast helped walk me through a cleanup.
SCAM AlERT - The Elder replies to anonymous2anonymous2 is correct - I had the pop up blocker on, and it still came up again yesterday. Sorry I was incorrect on this. Occurred when I was on the weatherunderground site to check the weather forecast. Amazing.
- ShaunzyThese lizards threw up a pop-up window on my work PC. Oh, it's a SCAM, all right. These crooks will take your money, trash your PC, steal critical--and personal--info. Steer clear. If you cannot close the window (via CTRL-ALT-DELETE >> Task Manager), then shut down the power and restart it.

- OnegaiSatanI called them multiple times to harass theem as they sat there and said they had relations with my mom an so forth lol... I knew it was fake so i kept messing with them and called i think about 15 times. I also had used Chromes plugin to view that pop-up site to trace them to their location and I eventually kept taking their packet data and found a lot of sensative information on their site which I then sold. I made about maybe $2300 off of it.

- MikeHuntletonMessage from Microsoft:Quote:Remember, Microsoft will never proactively reach out to you to provide unsolicited PC or technical support. Any communication we have with you must be initiated by you.
Cybercriminals often use publicly available phone directories, so they might know your name and other personal information when they call you. They might even guess what operating system you're using.
Once they've gained your trust, they might ask for your user name and password or ask you to go to a legitimate website (such as www.ammyy.com) to install Remote Access software that will let them access your computer to pretend to fix it. Once you do this, your computer and your personal information are vulnerable.
Do not trust unsolicited calls. Do not provide any personal information. Do not allow them access.

Tech Support Pop Up scam:
Most popups are generated from an Ad on an unsuspecting website and can be closed by end tasking the Browser, if it won't close by trying to close the tab/window. They can be removed by clearing the Cache and History, then restarting the Browser with an Ad Blocker turned on. If your Browser doesn't have one built-in, you might look to see if it supports a Browser Extension Ad Blocker.
If that didn't work and your still getting pop ups, you might have a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) that triggers a popup window.
You can try this site to help remove the PUP:
