Hung up on the answering machine, no name shown on the caller ID. Other websites indicate it might be ATT marketing DirectTV, or possibly someone impersonating them.

said they were from direct tv and I need to upgrade my software as my receivers were not compatible with the satellites anymore.  Wanted money also.

Guy with a foreign accent said my "satellites were needing upgrading". I was suspicious because I'd just gotten off the phone with Directv about an hour earlier. The rep I talked to was American, no accent, and we got it all straightened out. I told the caller I had Comcast and no satellite and he said, "Okay" and hung up. Very weird.

Received call @ 8:13 PM (EDT) 08/20/2019. Caller I.D. showed "TOLL FREE CALL". I did not answer but it wound up being a robo call from Direct TV looking for users.

Received a call from someone that was maybe Indian or Pakistani saying Direct Tv was going to be moving their satellite (or something like that) and they needed to know info. about my receiver to see if it was compatible.  I turned on the tv and followed their instructions to get to the receiver info., which I gave them, and then they started to ask for more info. about me like the last four digits of my s.s. number, my birth date and then my phone number & address.  I've never been scammed but I think they might have gotten to me.  I asked to speak to a manager and they handed me off to a woman who attempted to console me about the information they needed.  I said I gave you my receiver info. and you should be able to tell me if my set-up is fine and I didn't give in so she said she'd send me to their technical department.  I ended up with another guy and I said, look you should be able to tell me if my receiver is fine without any more information and he said yes, everything is okay.  Your receiver is fine.  No problem.  I asked for his phone number and he gave me the actual Direct tv tech. phone of 800-531-5000, which I called later and it made me think the scam call was legitimate, but the staff at the actual Direct tv line had no record that they had contacted me for this reason.  The 877-768-7754 number had the full Direct tv menu that actually worked including the choice for their tech line.  I think they got me on this one but I don't know if they got enough to hurt me, probably just enough.

    Patrick,

Treat this as if you have had your identity stolen!

You need to call your bank, credit card, etc... and let them know you've been scammed and that the scammers have your last 4-SSN and other personal information.

You should also contact the credit reporting agencies and have them freeze your credit profiles and put a fraud warning on the profile.

Frankly, anyone with your last 4-SSN, birthday, and last known address can "own" your identity within an hour at tops.

    *** for everyone else ***
    >>>UNLESS YOU START THE CALL TO A KNOWN AND TRUSTED BUSINESS / GOVERNMENT AGENT<<<
NEVER EVER GIVE OUT ANY PART OF YOUR SSN
NEVER EVER GIVE OUT YOUR DATE OF BIRTH
NEVER EVER GIVE OUT EITHER YOUR MADIEN NAME OR YOUR MOTHER"S MADIEN NAME (yes I know - guy's... that's why I mention Mom here).
NEVER EVER GIVE OUT THE CITY YOU WERE BORN

With these little pieces of information scammers can clean out your banking, IRA/401K, max your credit cards, place change of address requests with the US Post office, apply for replacement birth-certificates, and much much more!

A man with a heavy eastern accent kept demanding that I confirm that I was *the* Mrs. “Lastname.” He claimed to be from Directv. I told him that I had him on speaker so I could record his call. I told him that without a name, I could not get him to the correct person. He demanded I confirm information for him, so I just kept pushing back that he confirm his information first. I wasted about 2 minutes of his time before he gave up and hung up.

Foreign guy saying he's with AT&T...hmmmm. I don't have any business association whatsoever with AT&T...guess he must be a scammer. These calls are getting old and tiresome.
