Allegedly from Progressive Insurance; caller will ask you for personal information regarding a claim filed for a hit and run accident.  DO NOT GIVE ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION.  When we questioned the caller, she became agitated and hung up. When this number is called back, you will ALWAYS get a busy signal.  

When I reported the incident to Progressive Insurance on their 1-800 number, I was treated courteously and with great respect.  They were very concerned about this issue.  They took a report from me, gave me a report number for reference, and verified for me that in fact there is NO policy in our name with Progressive.  We KNEW we did not have a policy with them, but they double-checked for us to alleviate our fears that we might have been victims of identity theft.  

Let me make it clear:  the phone call we received from 1-877-776-4737 was from a woman ALLEGEDLY calling from Progressive Insurance, and she asks for personal information, which the insurance companies will NOT do.  I have reported this number to Progressive Insurance, and will be reporting it to the FTC, my state's attorney general and my local police department.

I received two calls from this numbers yesterday on my unlisted cell phone, but no voice messages were left.  I tried to call back and I got a busy signal as RW reported.  I then found this reference to fraud.  Coincidentally, I was involved in an accident five days ago in which I collided with a Progressive-insured person as the result of a third party hit-and-run driver.  And I did give my cell number to Progressive insurance.  So there's no doubt in my mind that someone inside Progressive is data mining their claims looking for identity-theft opportunities.  I have no proof, but that's what it smells like to me.  I also reported the incident to the (real) Progressive's fraud department.

This is a genuine Progressive PBX outgoing number. Just received a call from Progressive adjuster at this number. Take it easy on the caffeine and amphetamines RW. ;)

Just had an experience IDENTICAL to RW. Allegedly an agent from Progressive Insurance for a woman that filed a claim against us (Catherine Roberts). Call was received on our unlisted cell phone and they knew the make/model/color of one of our cars. Caller asked for my insurance company and personal information regarding a claim filed for a hit and run accident that supposedly occurred at the end of May, but we have not been in any accidents. The caller kept trying to convince us that he was trying to help us by avoiding a lawsuit. When this number is called back, I always got a busy signal.  I am reporting this number to Progressive Insurance and the local police department. I SUGGEST NOT GIVING ANY INFORMATION TO THE CALLER. If you are not comfortable just ignoring the issue, you can file a claim with your insurance provider and let your agent handle the matter.

I got a phone call from this number, this man named Michael Jode... spell check?? was claiming to be a progressive insurance agent, trying to collect money for a vehicle accident for a family member of mine.... not buying it.. I called the number back, and it rang and asked if I wanted to purchase ring tones.... VERY WEIRD. Someone's [***].

Today at about 2:15 PM I received a cal from telephone number 1-877-776-4737 on my unlisted cell phone.  The caller identified herself as Lisa from Progressive Insurance Company and was calling in reference to a claim.  I immediately found that odd.  She said I had been exchanging phone calls with a Mr. David Escobar and she wanted to set up a meeting.  I asked her to repeat the information and once again she said she wanted to meed with me in regards to a claim.  When I asked for specifics about the claim, all she would reveal is it was a claim and wanted to meet with me.  At that point I suspected a scam was being perpetrated.  I simply hung up.  After reading the posts above, I will call Progressive Insurance to report the scam.

i work for progressive and i got a call on my d.i.d. at work from this number. i didn't answer the phone and they didn't leave a message. almost immediately, they called my work cell phone. again, i didn't answer and they didn't leave a message. i called the number back and it said "thank you for calling the reward center. press 1 to see what prizes you've won". of course, i didn't press anything but the disconnect button....

We too were in car accident and driver had Progressive and when I did not give her the info she became agigated and said well I guess I will close this medical report.

This is PBX outgoing number for Progessive.  I just spoke with someone David, who was returning my call.  He did not ask for information, he asked for me by name and was the same gentleman that I had spoken to just minutes before when I called the local 828 number.

It is a legitimate progressive telephone number.
