- Rachel| 2 repliesI called back to see what would happen- this is a very recent scam number from all the reports coming in just last week til today. The lazy sounding lady said what sounded like " Canning and Associates, how may I help you." I hung up. This has got to be a scam- dont fall for it.

- mzar replies to Rachel| 1 replyThank you for reporting this Rachel and doing a bit of digging. I have now received this call everyday for the last 3 days. Each time they change up the incoming # but the same message with the same # to call and reference the incoming #. What a mess! I just keep blocking.
- BigA replies to mzarThat really isn't that helpful. She should have asked them what they do. There are a lot of names that come up with that those words in them and the one that has only those words seems to be a consulting company in Australia.
- Debra| 2 repliesWe were called and told due process would continue without is if we did not call this number (though the area code was not included). I called the origin number 844-492-1068 they answered with Canning Group. Claimed to be a law office looking for a person (I am not posting the name publicly because i dont think i trust this number) who is not connected to this phone number. They said they would delete our number from their records. That was it. I don't know if this was a scam, debt collection or what but it does seem fishy to me.

- Eli replies to Debra| 1 replyThanks, just rcv'd a vm that stated the same thing and I was googling first to see what company called Me and left this weird message.
- BigA replies to EliYes, that was a lot more helpful. Debt collection extortion scam.
It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it. You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified. If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.
First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file complaints with the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

- mzarI called the number and they had my name but my maiden name, my last 4 of my SS and my last 3 addresses. They claim I have an outstanding balance with a Visa card through Cross Country Bank which I have never heard of and have never had. They said they sent me 3 different letters and I have not responded to. I have not received any letter in the mail from Canning and Associates. They wanted me to 'take care of it now' which is over $2,000. I said they can send another letter. You could hear lots of callers in the background. She said that they wouldn't send another letter but will send a court summons. Yeah, total scam. Beware!

- Cheryl DufaultThis number called me on my landline and my cell phone.
They have been calling for months. Finally got fed up and called the number back. They had personal information that I would NOT VERIFY. They said a complaint has been filed and said I have not responded to letters. I stated I have not received a letter. They said they were sending a court summons. I said if they could send a summons how come I never received a letter with the original complaint.
I am pretty sure this is a scam since I have no outstanding debts. Has anyone ever received a summons from them?- Caller: 877 798 9803

- WillieLeft several messages saying a complaint filed against me and if I don't call back they will proceed without my consent. They said they were calling from K&A and associates is what it sounded like. I am so glad I am seeing these comments. I was trying to figure out why I was getting these calls.
