Another UBC student here...yeah, new notification system sounds like a likely guess.

Yeah, I'm a UBC student too.  Just the area code looked fishy (877 rather than 778)

Got a call from this number just now (was in class).

So what happens if someone pressed 1?

I just got a call from this number. Pressing 1 should let you hear the "important message" but nothing happened for me. Likely is that they haven't recorded an important message such as "building under lockdown" or something like that.

Yes, I'm a UBC student too and got a call from this number. UBC was testing its emergency system this morning as I also got a text message.

I think it's just UBC's alert system.

To the above poster - 877 is not an area code, it is a toll free 800 number. look it up on wikipedia.

It's UBC testing the emergency alert system.  I got a text message from them this morning too.

I got this too...it's just testing their system so that in a real lockdown case, we know we'd find out...
