Foreign accented male called stating that his company monitors my computer and that it was running slow due to several error messages.  He kept insisting I give him access to my computer and wanted me to pay him $200 through pay-pal to monitor my computer for 6 years.

I hung up and he continues to keep calling me.  It's been 3 days and he still keeps calling me.  I've reported him to all govt agencies and the local police.

We received the same call today. A foreign speaking male stated that his company was monitoring our computer and it was infected with malware. He had us press the window icon button and r to pull up the run window. Then type in eventvwr and had me open administrative events and look at all the warnings. These were not true warning for malware. We he wanted us to down load teamviewer software for remote access to our computer. I refused and because I did not know if he was a hacker trying to gain access to our personal information. He then gave me a number that only two sources would know us and microsoft. He had us type in a command and showed us this number. Still no convinced, I refused to allow access to our computer and asked for a phone number to call because there was not a CID number.

It's a scam. The 'secret number' he tried to show you is common in every Microsoft operating system since Windows 1.1 all systems will show that number. As well, every Microsoft OS has errors if you check your system log. It's a natural process of the OS.

I received a call from foreign sounding male saying he was from Windows Dept of Microsoft and that I had an undetectable virus on my computer.  He wanted access.  I told him I didn't have a phone in same room as computer and needed to borrow a cell phone.  Please give me a call back number.  He gave me two numbers: this number and 845 262 3348.  Said his name was David Williams at extension 8981.  I then went to computer to look up number and found this page.

If  the scammers accessed the computer, they probably did one or more of the following:
    • Disabled the anti-virus software
    • Added nasty malware to the computer
    • Copied the Contact List (so they can spam/email your soon-to-be ex-friends)
    • Copied any financial data or passwords they could find
    • Compromised your ID
    • "Zombied" the computer, so it would respond to THEIR commands sent via internet
    • Deleted some important files
    • Asked for money to repair the damage they caused

What can you do immediately after such an attack?
    1.  Pull the cables on the computer, or otherwise disable it, so it cannot access the internet.
    2.  Change ALL  passwords stored on the computer.
    3.  Run FULL malware scans on the computer, in "SAFE" mode!
    4.  Change the passwords again, particularly if the malware scans showed anything.
    5.  Inform your bank and credit card companies.
    6.  Sign up for credit monitoring, and check the status frequently
    7.  You may have to bring the computer to a local repair shop, and tell them the story.
    8.  Tell friends what happened, so they can be aware of strange emails from you.
    9.  Connect to the internet only AFTER all the above have been done.
    10.  Change the passwords on all online accounts.  Even better - access a "safe", uninfected  computer, and change your online account passwords RIGHT NOW.

    NOTE:
If your computer set a "Restore Point" while it was infected, any "System Restore" you make will re-infect your computer.  Suggest you delete any potentially infected restore points and avoid setting such restore points until after your computer has been thoroughly cleaned!

You fell for one scam, and might be susceptible to others mentioned on this site:

Read that info to educate and help protect yourself!

Honest computer companies do NOT cold-call people, or cause popups from websites to tell them their computers need fixing!

Some scammers even have websites, and falsely advertise they are associated with popular software packages or computer companies; so do NOT believe a "we will fix your computer remotely" site, and allow them access to your computer!

Caller wanted acess to my computer to fix infected files.  I became suspicious and asked for the phone number from which he was calling.  I called the number and they stated they were an independent company authorized to fix reported problems.  It just didn't sound right so I didn't pursue any further conversation and hung up.

Received two calls from this number today.  First time I told the caller my number was on the do not call list and it should never be called again.    Second call rec'd several hours later --- same "Windows Service" company, different person.  This time I asked what number I could use to call him back.  877 822-7770,  Now at least I can block the call as spam.

I got an "asian" male caller saying he was from Microsoft Windows Team and had noticed "suspicious activity" on my computer.  Said his name was Charley (didn't speak English very well).  I asked for a number to call back and he gave me 877-822-7770. However, my phone showed the calling number as 234-321-3432.  I tried online reverse phone look-ups, but couldn't get a result for the 877 number.  Got no caller name on a look-up for the 234 number, but the site stated phone number was from within Ohio.

Received a call today from an individual who gave his name as Chris Emmanuel from a company Called: WinMac Solutions.  He stated that they are a service company for Windows (wouldn't say Microsoft) and told me that my computer had a serious problem.  He wanted to get access to it.  I told him no way and to take me off his list and if he/they called me again, I would report him to the FBI.
