    Not only am I receiving calls from this Brownstone Capital person(s) my son and a close friend did also. The woman said they were looking for me and I was being served and would be arrested if I did not contact them. All I got from my return call was a voicemail. These people are apparently very rude and persistent. My internet research came up with a legitimate Brownstone Capital but not from Georgia as she stated. There are two other numbers listed on 800notes.com using this name. The statements there are the same as mine. They have been threatening to call my employer for about a week now, well their info source must be as suspect as they are as I have been out of work since last October. I received a similar type of scam about a year and a half ago and I just told them I'll have my lawyer contact them and low and behold they stopped calling.

    We have been getting calls, my sons my mom and I. Telling us that if I do not call this number back that I am going to be arrested and that they will be serving me with papers but they need a valid active address to come and arrest me. And they also left a case number. I called the number they said to call and it just goes to a voicemail stating it is Brownstone Capital. I am really getting tired of this lady calling us, this is [***]
    and I am getting ready to call an attorney if this continues.

    I got a call from this number. The debt they are harrassing me about is legit. However, I am declaring bankruptcy and they REFUSE to give me their address, because if you don't have the address you cannot include the debt in the bankruptcy. Has anyone found a legit address? Thanks!

    These people are very rude. Any company that is not willing to provide you their address is not legit. I asked for a email address or mailing address and they would not give it to me. The only number they provided me with was a fax number 877-232-1128 to someone name Jeff O'Brien. I also asked for a copy of the original contract and the amount of the payments I have already made, they would not provide that info. Therefore if they are unwilling to provide information I'm unwilling to pay them. If these people say they have paperwork to serve you with give them the address to your police department or tell them you will meet them there.

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    •is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    •refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    •asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    •exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

    •Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
    •Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
    •Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
    •Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

    Any company who refuses to MAIL proof that the debt is yours and that they have the legal right to collect said debt - is owed nothing, per the FDCPA.

    Report the callers to the FTC, FBI, Dept of Justice and your state's Attorney General.  NEVER pay anyone who refuses to mail proof of debt to you.

    Regardless of whether the debt is included in the bankruptcy, I would say they're scammers anyway.  Any legitimate company would have no problem giving you their information.  I would also let your bankruptcy lawyer know what's going on.

    I am getting threatening calls to my family and my employer from these people saying they are going to serve me with paperwork for defrauding a contract if I don't give them my banking info and agree to let them take $100.00 bi weekly out for a loan that was supposedly from 2011.  Then when I ask more indepth questions, like what happens if they serve papers, will it be a garnishment, can I mail payments, they tell me they don't know etc...
