- ScamHaterGot an annoying call allegedly from "800 Service" at 877-858-0220. The recorded message kept telling me to hold on and wait for a live person who had a very important message for me. I waited for a little while just to tell them to stop calling then hung up.
- Caller: 800 Service
- Call type: Telemarketer
- IrritatedComputer says hold - I finally did just to see if a "real" person would answer and the computer hung up on me!
- SaxmanNumber shown as contact for "FMS Inc., PO Box 707600, Tulsa, OK 74170-7600", with alleged member logo for "ACA International, Assoc. of Credit and Collection Professionals". They didn't call but sent collection letter claiming debt for "returned item" (check #757525) to Wal-Mart #1237 in the amount of $1,257.56 plus fee amount of $25.00 for total allegedly owed of $1,282.56. Numerous clues this is scam. (1) I don't write checks; (2) last check I wrote was 10 years ago; (3) I've never in my life issued check to Wal-Mart; (4) the few checks I've written over the past 30 years all have 4-digit check numbers, not 6 digits; (5) I've never shopped at a Wal-Mart spending more than $400 in a single trip; (6) Wal-Mart #1237 is in Erwin, North Carolina (I'm in Virginia) and I've never stepped foot in the Erwin, N.C. Wal-Mart or even in Erwin, N.C.. This is one of the most sophisticated scams I've ever seen.
- Caller: No Call
- SaxmanThe letter upon which I based my review (above) was dated May 19, 2017. I just received a different letter dated June 19, 2017 with different wording but now with the sentence in all caps: "A THIRTY DAY VALIDATION NOTICE HAS BEEN PREVIOUSLY MAILED TO YOU" [what's a "validation notice"???...LOL]. Then the usual statement, "Your payment should be made payable to Wal-Mart Stores Inc and mailed to the address on the tear-off portion of this letter." [Only problem is, the dumba**es forgot to include a "tear-off portion"...there was none]. I called the (877) 858-0220 number on the letter (using the caller ID block code) and got an endless loop voice message of: "Hello. Please hold for the 1st available representative. It's important that we speak with you. We'll be with you shortly." I then put the message on speaker-phone and it continued for 30 minutes, whereupon I hung up. It's possible their system is programmed not to answer caller-ID-blocked calls.
- Caller: No Call (but FMS Inc. letter)
- Call type: Debt collector
- SaxmanP.S...it's also possible that their system is programmed to direct calls to the message loop to discourage direct contact with any live person and to force "concerned" callers who think it's a legit call to mail in their payments with credit card numbers and signatures on the "tear-off" portion of the letter.
- Caller: FMS Inc (letter, not call)
- Call type: Debt collector
- KasI received a letter at my work location addressed to a customer saying $7.39 is owed for a returned check. Nothing about this makes any sense. New SCAM! More sophisticated than most scams I see.
