The caller was calling my number for my daughter.  Threatened that if I didn't give the phone number and case number for the civil case against her that they would serve her at her home and place of employment.  Good luck with that.  This is not the first time they have contacted me.  I am apparently listed as her emergency contact.

Keep receiving calls from 877-865-9338 stating that I have a file claimed against me and that I will be arrested etc. and I need to call previous number and they give me a case number. This is a scam. I do not have anything out there that would cause a claim to be filed against me.

They called me and told me someone filed a civil suit against me. I was given a case number and told that I needed to contact their law offices to prevent it from becoming a lawsuit. That's a nice story, but there's no reason for anyone to sue me unless they just hate my face.

Just because a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt does not mean you owe it
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:

    1.    Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
    2.     Demand a debt validation letter by US mail.  E-mail no good.
    3.    Do not pay  the collection agent or anyone else a  DIME  until the debt is validated.

Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply block their calls and ignore them.

    If they are bothering you,

    Report them:

http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection  (Threatening criminal prosecution to collect a civil debt is a clear violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Act)

Also contact your local attorney general

If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money,  tell them that you know this is  a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion.  You might have to yell at the scammer and talk over him or her.  Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the  file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved.   Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them .

BBB says they claim to be process servers.  They are clearly not a law firm, so far as I can make out.

This is a total scam. They said we owed money to Sprint from 2002. We hadn't ever been with Sprint until 2008.  We were told it was $900 but if we paid right now it would be $500. If we didnt pay it would be taken to court and charged for legal fees too. They threatened that it would all come out of our bank account and there's nothing we could do about it. Thankfully we didn't fall for this. Blocked their number and called local sheriff's office.

    Some Tips:
    *Keep all messages
*Take a picture of your Caller ID
*Keep any and all conversations recorded to your states recording laws, some require they be told, others do not. This can be transferred to a recording device.
*Keep a notebook handy for writing time, date, who you spoke with and what the conversation detailed.
*Check your SOL for your state as well.
*Attorneys need to be licensed as a DC to collect, all DC's must be licensed in their state as well as yours if different.

Same phone call received today, I had been aware of phony calls of this nature and called the number just to see what they had to say, funny that they mentioned a place of employment that I had worked at about 3 yrs ago, makes me wonder if that is where they got my information from.

A third party company by the name of "Overnight Locators" phone number (213)213-5833 from representative Jessica said she was calling on behalf of Goldberg and Steinbeck in regards to a Civil complaint and a call must be returned immediately to phone number (877)865-9338.

Received a call from 817-203-1075 stating a civil suit has been filed against my daughter.  They gave a case # and wanted her to call them at 1-800-492-7945. I called my daughter and told her about it.  She has no clue what they are talking about.  She has no debt or accidents for anyone to sue her.  This is a scam!

Receiving calls to contact a Goldberg and Steinbeck saying they have a "civil suit" against me.    This is false and I believe they are trying to scam me.    After getting all my information together to and telling them why this wouldn't even make sense, they are no longer taking my calls and have become unreachable.

This is bogus, phone number was given to contact was 800-492-7945. I was given an exact hour to call a legitimate office of Goldberg and Steinbeck. They wanted to locate my whereabout before proceeding with court documents.
Ok then, I rang back to Tammy from Overnight locator, whom initiate the phone calls and she got really upset when asked for Overnight locator address, direct corporate office and she hung up.
Be really careful, these are some kind of new scam, or new tactic for collections.
