Voice message left had my VISA provider correct (SCARY!) but the last four digits incorrect.  The message said there were transactions they wanted to verify and that they were VISA Fraud Prvention Services.  I didn't call back their number but called the 800 number on my statement instead.  Glad I found this posting and followed my gut questioning the call.

Whew!  This is a LEGITMATE number.  The call was for my son's card and it is the correct number for our bank's VISA Fraud Prevention Services.  Please disregard the previous posting from me2.

They need to change their into message. Don't put in the numbers - instead hit 0 to talk to one of the representatives. They are the valid VISA fraud department.

I got a call today from this number too.  All I had to do was hit 0 for the operator and they asked for the phone number (no CC#) and then asked us to verify information such as addresses, etc.  Definately a safe number.

    This is a LEGIT number.
Add it to your address book for when you travel suddenly.
Or when a gas pump rejects your transaction ... 3 times. :-)

Got some calls from this number too, figured its legit it happened a few min after a large Christmas purchase but didnt trust the info here so did some research online. Check out https://www.desertschools.org/templates/product/baseproduct.aspx?id=3378 this number is listed near the bottom explaining that desert schools partners with visa fraud prevention or w/e.  Decide for yourself.

If you cant find the paragraph explaining their relationship hold Ctrl+F to open up the find command and search for the number on the page.

This number IS on the back of my VISA card as the fraud number. It doesn't get more official than that. I hv no explanation for ppl who don't hv an acct with them... maybe calling the number & discussing it would help to resolve that problem.

Thanks for mentioning Dersert Schools.  I do have accounts there and this is the VISA Fraud Protection service they use. The number came be found on

This IS a real VISA fraud Prevention Number. The credit union I use, Dersert Schools uses this service. The number cane be found on dsfcu web site (https://www.deserschools.org) "contact us" list.  I don't know if they serve other banks or not.

I also opt'ed for "pressing ) to speak to a rep" rather than entering my account #.  Actully, all they wanted was the case number left on the answering machine, but the machine didn't get it. Then they asked for thr phone number that was called, and then could tell me why they called.

This is a legit call.  I called DesertSchools and they routed me back to this number.  Turns out several purchases were made on my card (not by me) that was flagged by the Visa Fraud Prevention.  As a result the charges were not accepted and I received a new card.

This is a LEGIT number for Desert Schools Fraud Prevention. I got 4 calls from them this morning, and called them back. I verified my birthday and the zip code (ONLY) for my billing address, and was informed that a transaction of 41.00 was denied for suspicion of fraud. Considering my card is in my wallet, IN FLORIDA with me, and has not been used ONCE in 2011, I was very happy to get this call.

People need to stop being so paranoid and quick to call "scam" on people trying to HELP THEM.

Preventing Text Phishing and Telephone Fraud

The Arizona Office of the Attorney General encourages you to be wary of text phishing (SMS messaging) scams. In addition, there have been recent reports of telephone fraud related to ATM and debit cards. Desert Schools urges you to be vigilant about how and to whom you provide personal information.

    What might criminals ask for?
There are many potential scams; however, the latest text phishing and telephone fraud attempts instruct individuals to call a phone number they receive via email or cell phone text message. They are then told to enter their full credit or debit card number and PIN. Under no circumstances, should you do so.

What phone numbers are valid for our members to call and verify transactions?
Visa Fraud Protection (Falcon) at (877) 902-4805 and Desert Schools at (602) 433-7000 or (800) 456-9171 are the only valid numbers for our members to call and verify transactions.

What is Desert Schools doing to protect me?
We use multiple internal, layered security protections, as well as Visa Fraud Monitoring and Verified by Visa, to minimize risk to our members. However, your best defense is you—do not give out any personal information unless you are sure of the party and purpose.

What can I do to protect myself?
There are a few important things you can do to safeguard against text phishing and telephone fraud:

       * Monitor your accounts for unusual activity
       * Check your credit reports at annualcreditreport.com (consumers get one free credit report each year)
       * Immediately contact Desert Schools if you notice any unauthorized activity on your account
       * Keep your card secure and in your possession
       * Keep your PIN confidential

Access our "Protecting Yourself from Identity Theft" guide from our Money Matters Series.

What do I do if there is fraud on my account?
If you have unauthorized transactions on your account, please complete the appropriate fraud documentation immediately at any branch. If you are out of state, you may call (800) 456-9171 to have the necessary forms mailed to you.

Remember, Desert Schools will never email or text you to verify sensitive data or account information.

i received a phone call this morning from 800 902-4805.  i was hesitant at first because it said that it was 'fraud prevention on behalf of Desert School Federal Credit Union" but all security questions being asked were automated.  I called the number on the back of my card and that was the branch number, it was closed.  So, I went to desertschools.org and looked under 'contact us'.  I found the number the number 1-800-902-4805 and it was listed as 'Fraud prevention'.  Rather than answering question with the automated system, i hit '0' and talked to a customer representative.  She happened to have an accent but most do these days.  I did give her the answers to the security question because i got the number from the legitimate website.  She did have other information about me that was specific to me also. So..  Anyway.

There was a fraudulent charge placed on my card on 10/22 for $105.64.  It was made from Walmart.  I asked how they knew it was fraudulent, because I was curious how it got flagged, and they said it was made in Greensboro, N.C.  Although they did close the card account number, the transaction had gone through and I have to make a call tomorrow on Monday to make a claim on the charge and to get a new card.

IT WAS A LEGITIMATE NUMBER..  if you are not sure, go to your desertschools.org online banking page and verify under 'contact us'.  But, don't just trust me, do your own research.  Or, if it's a weekday, just call your branch.  But, it was definitely LEGIT.

What made it uncomfortable to me was that when I called the number back and it said "fraud prevention" everything else was automated.  I thought that was weird for a Fraud call.  But, it was..

Hope this helps everyone.  Don't worry, Desert Schools will reimburse you for your claim even if it went though and/or didn't show up on your card.
