Got a call from ( 888 ) 200 4550. They claimed to be from the government in DC and I had a 7,000 dollar government check that was due me all I had to do was send them some personal information. I said that if they were the government please the request via mail so I would have documentation that they were legitimate and could check them out first. They immediately hung up.

They called everyday at least 4 times to my mother who is dying of heart failure.  She jumps up to check the id before she answers any calls as I told her to.  I finally blocked them via verizon fios digital phone so the calls don't get passed thru but if you check the caller logs there must be at least 15 in just a 4 hour period.  Dont they get the message?  When I call the number to tell them to stop it answers National Publications and they cannot take my call leave a message.  Right, as if I would!!!! If anyone knows who to contact about this number please post it so we can all get rid of them.

The man's name is Marcus and he said he is from the National Enquirer Magazine who called today. I had renewed my National Enquirer months ago  and told them I will make payments in 4 installments. Today  Marcus said it could be only done through the checking account. I told him I can not do that that I had already made arrangements with National Enquirer to send me bills. He got very nasty and threatened me at 2:18 today. Says he is reporting me to a collection agency.I am reporting them to the police, National Enquirer and cancelling my subscription if this is the type of people they have working for their company

This company does not work for the National Enquirer. Has nothing to do with us. We never have sent them name or phone numbers of our subscribers. They are a fraud

My several years ago my spouse got a call from a company called  "Publishers Clearing House" and that she needed to renew her subscription to the "National Enquirer" she gave them her account # over the phone and they printed out a  virtual check pay to the order of "Virtual Exoress LLC" for the sun of $221.31. Dated 04/18 2011 Her signature was fake etc. She received no "National Enquirer" magazine.  At the end of November they called again and asked if she had gotten her subscription she said no so they said that they would send the magazine right out. She did not give them permission to be billed a second time but they billed my Citizens Bank for with another virtual check dated 12/05/2012 pay to the order of New Subscription Center LLC for the amount $197.00. What surprised me is that bank could not collect the funds from these scammers. Today 8/24/2013 they called my spouse again and asked me for my billing address which she gave them and said that the magazine would be coming my spouse said thanks and hung up. Unless they can use a computer to re-script ones voice how can they keep sending Citizens Bank virtual checks and get cash for the checks unless the bank is also sucked into the Fraud.

Somebody is not doing their jobs then. Go down to your bank branch in person and file a fraud complaint!  You may need to close your account and start a new one to stop this.  Also its illegal to forge someones signature.  Never try to handle this kind of thing over the phone, do it in person!

That was done. You are right the bank wouldn't do their job. They are doing it now. But these idiots keep calling because their number keeps showing up on my phone. Some people may not have extra resources to pay the extra fees at the bank and phone company for protection. That's why I ask them to send their request certified mail with return receipt so I can check them out.

When my mother was in her 80's and had lost her vision she used to call her friends and talk to them. These crooks started calling her trying to scam her out of her money and our estate. They would say anything even pretending to be an estate manager or lawyer. The calls got so frequent, creative and deceptive that our lawyer suggested that we take her phone away from her. Since she couldn't call and talk to her friends she when "down the hill" fast she became paranoid and lonely. I say sue the crooks off the face of the planet.

Help in MO replies to PS
I don't know where you live, but if you are on a "no call" list, you can contact your local attorney general's office to report. Just give them the number and as much as you know. I believe even if you are not on a "no call" list, the consumer affairs division can investigate on your behalf. Good luck! We're getting these calls now, too--and we ARE on both state and federal lists.

best way to combat this is to call 1-888-200-4550 as often as possible. these folks had the habit of calling me in the past but they are now upset that I call them at any hour of the day or night, they hang up but good old redial has them back on line in seconds. they use VOIP phones so they can manipulate the caller ID to show anything. After I harassed them they tried to call me acting like the police, called the caller id from the police who called me and they never heard of me, no complaints at all. these people are operating outside the law and can not complain with out turning themselves in so to all who have been harassed please become the harasser run up the call volume, block their phones, if everyone calls 1-888-200-4550 and keeps it tied up they will not harass anyone anymore!!!!

2nd call in 2 days ... I won't answer ... why bother?  I'd rather ignore their calls than get in a pissing match with these scammers.  To Mr. Saufley who commented above, take the phone away from your wife!  She appears to be the perfect patsy for these slugs!
