I have been getting phone calls from them for weeks, several times a day, and they never leave messages. When I called them back they asked for a Shawn something or other (not me...), and I told them to take my name off the list, which they said they would do. I'm skeptical about that one. I think this exact same thing happened to me about 6 months ago. How is it legal to call random people, run up their phone bills, asking for people that have nothing to do with them???

You can get them to stop by sending them an email to recruitingmn@allianceoneinc.com with a version of the following message:

In accordance with the rights afforded me in the US Fair Debt Collection Act and under the laws of the state of #######, I am informing your company that you are to cease all further contact with me regarding AllianceOne Receivables Management, Inc., account #XXX999 for (Name).  This includes, but not limited to phone, mail, and email.  Any further contact by your company or on your behalf will be promptly reported to the FTC and other appropriate agencies/entities and considered harassment.

This email was sent to the “Contact Us” link on your company website.  If this is not the appropriate contact point, please forward this email to the appropriate person(s) to avoid any negative repercussions for AllianceOne resulting from further contact.

Then, if they contact you again, you note the date and time, name of person calling, and the phone number.  You go to
    https://rn.ftc.gov/pls/dod/wsolcq$.startup?Z_ORG_CODE=PU01

and file a complaint with the FTC.  I have used this method with several collection companies in the past and they stop calling within a week or less.

These guys just started with me. It's been going on for approx. a month and I'm really tired of trying to contact them via my cell phone. I googled the 888 number displayed on my cell and found out they are Alliance One and they collect for Capitol One. I have never had any business contact or relationship with Capitol One and I WILL NEVER do business with a group who employ sleaze bags like NCOGroup crud. Gee, what's in your wallet ? Would anyone let these [***] look into their wallet ??

A few of these calls may be legitimate collections calls.  BUT many of them may not be and/or may be harassing in nature and transgressing the law.

IF they have either your name or SSN correct, but you are sure you never had a credit card or other debt with the bank/company in question, then you may be a victim of some form of fraud (possibly identity theft).

Check your credit report!  You are entitled to 1 FREE credit report per year from Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax (credit reporting companies).  Check your credit report regularly!

These same people call me about an account that isn't even mine.  Try filing a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.  Also, you can send the company a written letter to cease calling you at work.  Information is available at http://www.ftc.gov/. Hope this helps.

I just called a collection call stop agency about this company after they were so rude to me, my family was on vacation we had paid for us and I asked them to call me back in two weeks they said they wouldn't unless I made arrangements with m them they will not only tell them to stop but make then pay them they have called everyday, the stop call company told me that if I can get another number for them to legit the company they will help me get it stopped, and if not then alliance will pay ME! so if anyone else can get another number from them it would help alot.

Don't worry. In a few months, Google Voice will be out of BETA testing and we will not need to deal with jerk collection agencies anymore. How sad.......
