I got an email from PayPal yesterday and it was this fraudulent number. Dont give them any personal info. FAKE FAKE FAKE DONT CALL THIS NUMBER...

This is 200% true! 888 # is a scam

scam.

Possibly from a PayPal #, but makes no sense. Don't answer or reply, as this may be a phishing scam. Block # if possible. Better yet, call PayPal directly and inform them of a possible scam. Pay Pal's customer direct is:
844-629-9108.

I was scammed out of 2k dollars! Please dont use this number.

I searched online for paypal customer service contact information and found this number, so I called it. I was trying to get money back that was hung up in an inactive account. They insisted the only way to help me was for me to purchase a $200 google play card which they could load the funds on (the amount I was trying to get back was only $83) and they would instantly refund me the $200 as well - something about needing a third party vendor to make the transaction or some such nonsense. When I said I did not have $200 to purchase a google play card the guy was super aggressive about me borrowing money from a friend or co worker and assuring me it would be refunded instantly. In hindsight they answered the phone in a pretty unprofessional manner and it sounded like a loud call center in the back ground. Someone with an accent answered after the second ring with: "hello, support" Luckily I was wary enough that I did not proceed - I was however on the phone with this guy for over an hour and he almost persuaded me I had to do this to get my money..but I finally just gave up, thinking I'll call back the next day and try to resolve this. So today I looked up the number for paypal customer support and found a different number (the legit number) and its a lot of automated options etc before you ever get to a representative - as one would expect, like the phone company, etc. I cannot believe I almost bought a $200 google play card for these scammers.

I just searched this number 1-888-1161 on White Pages and it came up as Registered in Menifee, CA to Wedding Sparkles @ 28474 Boardwalk Ct, Menifee, CA 92585-3343. They are a company established in 1998.

Today in less than one minute, I received 4 texts from this number which all said the same thing:  "FREE PayPal: Your security code is: XXXXXX. Your code expires in 10 minutes. Please don't reply. Each text had a different code. Even though it said "Don't reply", I did. I texted back "Who is this?" and I received the reply "FREE Paypal: For assistance, please call us at 1-888-221-1161", which I have no intention of calling.

I truly believe this is some type of scam.

This is the legit number to actually CALL PayPal, but if this number calls you it could be a scammer that is spoofing PayPal's number. I don't think that if PayPal was calling you that they would use the primary number anyway.  If in doubt hang up and actually call PalPal and ask if they were calling. It's a safe number if YOU dialed it.

PEOPLE!!! Some of you still believe this is legit!!! These bottom feeders have spoofed PayPal’s number. Almost every scam out there are spoofing numbers in hopes of deceiving you. BLOCK THEM!!!! Another scam being run is regarding Macy’s. They spoofed their number as well!! Another scam is Amazon, they spoofed their number as well. It goes on and on‼️ Please don’t believe these foreign dirtbags!!!! You will be sorry if you are taken for a lot of money....and you WILL be.....if you buy into this scam. Be smarter than the scammer!!! Block Them!!

This is a scam.  But a very sophisticated one.  Do not call this number.  Close all your paypal accounts.  Paypal the company is hacked.

Telling me my PayPal account is closed until I go into their website (scammer provided) and change my password along with my 'hint' questions. Yeah right. Scamming [***].

NO! ! !  This is not the legitimate number for PayPal. It has an 888  exchange. SCAM! ! ! Pay attention people.

Caller (India) wanted me to confirm my account #, password and hint questions. Sure. He's the one born under a rock, not me. Be smart people and watch out for these scammers!

This number is asking me for info. It scares me to answer anything. What number did you use to call PayPal?

Instead of asking someone who posted 2 years ago, why don't you visit PayPal's official website for contact information?
