The calls you are getting are from  Santander who has several entities that they do collections from.  They got my son on this one and I went on a search to find them and what they do.  Good luck.

There are a few of these collection agencies in the U.S.  We have one here in Utah also, Riddle & Sons.  But, I have found that they do have multiple offices throughout the country.  Next time they call, ask them for the company name, an address for them and a telephone number.  When or if they give you the information, tell them thank you for the information and that you are turning it over to your state's Attorney Generals Office, hang up, and put a block on them so they cannot get through.  Good luck.

the DNC registry only applies to telemarketers.  If money is owed to a company, they are allowed to contact the debtors.  I know this, as I am always getting calls from my own collection agencies.  I dont LIKE it, but I researched everything to know where I stand with my rights, and thats just how it is.  The government is not going to ban companies from trying to collect on debts.  I try to pay on mine, even if its just a few dollars, and i start getting on track, then WHAM!  medical emergency or WHAM!  car needs costly repairs.
Santander seems to be totally devoid of humans in their workforce though.  After I tried to get a deferment, after paying early every month for 2 years, I was told that I was not eligible for deferment because I was not behind by 3 or 4 months.  I said, fine, I will not be paying until the 27th late day of my payment from now on.  that was a year and a half ago.  They call work and home.  i hang up on all their numbers, of which there are many.  They get their money on my terms.  they deal with me on my terms.  i owe some late fees, but its worth it to not deal with the morons at all.

I agree with you 100%.  I had to pay 1300 to get my car back and now, I have 1.5 months left. I requested a payoff balance last month and it was $1000 more than what owe!  same thing this month.   I called and asked for an explanation and was told I was "stupid if I couldn't figure it out.".  what a bunch of total idiont.

The have called me because a friend of mine put me as a reference on something.  I did not answer because the # showed up as unavailable.  Their message said they were trying to get in touch with my friends because they had some assistance available for them - after reading these comments I am pretty sure it is not assistance they are trying to give them :)

I just bought a car TWO weeks ago that the dealership financed through Santander. And since last week I've been receiving calls from this number. I came online to see what I could find out about them. OH BROTHER. They call and never leave messages. I never pick up calls from numbers I am not familiar with and I will continue to do so with this number. If it gets annoying, I will block their calls since they don't leave a message anyway. I don't even have a car payment due until July! I am going to refinance ASAP!

I had a voice message on my home phone from a Ben Jackson.  He asked me to return a phone call
to 1-888-222-4227.  The nature of the call was for me to be used as a reference for my daughter.

When I tried to return the call, the auto directory claimed to be Sovereign Bank.  My daughter has no known affiliation with this institution.

The auto-prompter asked for my social security number.

This is a scam.  Somehow they have received information from people that have had debt in the past.
When my daughter was going through a divorce, she gave my home phone number as a point of contact.  The divorce was very messy and the community debt owed between her and the estranged husband was very ambiguous until their court proceeding.
However that divorce was finally complete over 4 years ago. My daughter no longer uses her married name since the day of the final divorce proceedings.
When i called the number back, not knowing the circumstances, the institution was Sovereign Bank.
No one in my family has any association with this institution.
The auto prompter also tried to retrieve my personal social security number.  That is not going to happen ever.  I am quite positive that the unusual amount of hang up calls on my home voice message recorder is probably from these people.
THIS IS A SCAM. PROCEED WITH CAUTION.

This  company keeps calling for my sister-in-law whom I have no contact with. I've told them this - I gave them her last phone number that I've had, yet they still keep calling me. This is almost to the point of harassment since they will not remove my phone number from their records.

These people called me looking for a friend. What the hell is this? I didn't buy the car and I'm not going to call you back. I never heard of such a thing.
