I keep getting these calls and get messages on my voicemail at home. I also got message at my father-in-law's house on his answering machine & then just recently at my work while I wasn't home. The message (either left on machine or left for my manager to pass on to me) is that the sheriff was coming to serve me papers and if i'm not at home they're coming to my work. Honestly, I don't know who/what it's for and it's kinda scary but i don't know what it's for! I get phone calls but no mailings?

I received a call from this number in reference to an employee. When I called back, they answer the phone with "headquarters."  When I asked what headquarters that would be, they were at first evasive.  I asked if this was in reference to a background check, and they said "No, we're GRCC.  We sue people."

I find this particularly shady because when they called they said it was in reference to a fingerprinting issue, which it clearly is not.

These guys and their business practices are definitely shady.  I received a fax from them requesting employment verification on an employee: no phone call or any other attempt to make contact with me in person.  But here is the kicker: their fax cover sheet only shows an address, phone # and fax #.  I had to do some research to find out what they are up to, finding this site in the process.  If they were doing things above-board, they would identify their company on their fax coversheet.  While what they do may be legit, they are going about it the wrong way.

    Poor Boy
I just recieved a call from a blocked call but the guy left this same 888 # with a case #...he mumbled his first name...sounded like Dan or Dave...last name was clearly Thomas. He said that he was trying to set up an appointment to have a uniformed officer and a process server meet me at my home or place of employment to provide me with a legal summons. He said they would make 3 attempts to contact me and after the 3rd...and I quote... "there is a possiblility I will be a failure to summons in my county" He never mentioned it was an attempt to collect a debt and he didn't give a company name...he said he was calling from a "Private Processing Division".

I'm like millions of other people and have CC debt...hard times...I was just actually served with a summons two months ago...but never got a call like this ahead of time...I called the attorney listed on the summons and worked out a settlement.

The same message today on my cell. - Restricted number - very unfriendly lady - matter of fact tone said shes trying to make contact so a "uniformed officer" could come serve me a summons.....I have no idea what this is about. She said that I would have a 2 hour window to call back - I called & called and it was busy - then finally it went through and she answered "Scheduling", I think its a scam....either way, its bad business.

I neveer got a call from these people, they called everyone else in my family trying to get my number, and my information.  This was very shady and it definately seems like a collection agency.  No matter what I have a good attorney if this decides to go to court.

Its a dept collector - and they're fishing.  . They do not always identify the company or the dept, just that they're calling to rather cleverly and strongly state that IF you don't call them to resolve this, things could get worse.

The first message stated the individual, a woman, was calling from "Direct Research Capital" for a "potential filing of a schedule C to the IRS" What this means is they would have to write the dept off as a loss and report the amount to the IRS, and then I would have to pay taxes on the amount, which, I have no idea what its been ballooned to with interest and fees, its probably really completely unrealistic and well out of my present means.  If I have to pay taxes or insane interest and fees on a dept that originally was probably a 250 credit limit and its ballooned to only 'G' knows what, I'll be not happy.

The second message, I spent 15 minutes (of my cell minutes- which I pay by the minute for)  writing down the message verbatim so I could pass it on here to anyone wondering.  "This is (female dept collector), I'm calling from a 'Private Processing Division'  to schedule a process server to provide you with a legal summons at your current place of employment and or current residence.  There will be three attempts (much like the Ghost of Christmas Past, Present and Future)  made in contacting you. If no contact can be established, you'll be classified as a failure to be served.   If you need to have any of these services rerouted or have any further questions, please contact the issuing office further at (voice got a bit louder here) 888-226-0401.  and provide your case number as (five digits)

They may have called my employer, but I have not received any verification on that. Seeing that they have called these other places, I have little reason to doubt they will or have already called my employer as well.

The company that believe this believe dept is for went bankrupt and out of business years ago. (2008)

They called my parents house several days before calling my cell.  (which I typically don't have on and rarely use)  Its safe to say they check these sites for collection information as well.

Bottom line, I'd love to clear up this old dept as I have paid off many others and cleaned up my history a good deal. I have argued with collectors before over this particular dept  years prior because I have a right to dispute it and have proof of it, but I also do not wish to be harassed mercilessly about it..which has happened many times before with other agencies.   With the downturn of the economy, I took a couple job loses in 07 and some hard turns in 08 including 10% reduction in pay (which is another story.) Our company is very slow (its supposed to be our busiest season of the year)  and just had a complete flop for an investment costing millions.

I would say the company is legitimate, tho, with the wording of these messages, I'm leery to contact them from anything less than a payphone.

They call me dude, but not Joe. replies to They call me dude.
I also have sound reason to believe that since they have called these other numbers, and people are getting calls to their relatives, that they are probably running credit reports first before they do anything. So if you really want to find out more about them before you call. Check who has been running credit checks with the credit reporting agencies within the last 30 days.  They may have a legal barrier there as well.  Sometimes its tough to find any good information about collection agencies (they play the game in reverse) ...and this one is no different.
