Got a text allegedly from Truist on behalf of BBT or SunTrust. Calling back automated system wanted my social security number to look up my account. Sounds like a scam to me, nobody asks for a social security number for account verification.

This guy I knew in high school many years ago has supposedly found me and is trying to start up a relationship with me after all these years.
Although we've spoken several times on the phone he never talks to me on face time, or face to face. He claims that he is an off shore rig worker and isn't allowed to do video calls while on the rig. He has been after me to talk to his financial advisor at this number above. I am a little to smart for his britches I think because I don't fall for just anything anyone tells me. So, I'm investigating this person as to if he is who he says he is.....I was happy to see this number here as it appears to be a scam number????
He claims to tell me that he wants me to set up an account so he can send me money when I need it since I am disabled.  He is wanting me to call this number...I'm not getting calls from them!

Can anyone explain to me about the number and if it's real or a total scam????

Thanks for any information you guy's can help me with.....

    Truly,
    Tracie

An alleged old friend who wants you to give him bank information and you aren't sure if it's a "total scam"?! Of course it is!

Called my home business telephone line twice, within minutes apart.  No message left.  NEVER give out your social security number to some random caller.  Banks make it clear they will NEVER ask for your SSN!  We don't even answer incoming calls from numbers we don't recognize.  Number spoofing has gotten out of control--why is that even legal?  Number spoofing is clearly fraud; it's someone pretending to be someone they're not for nefarious reasons, using it in order to defraud someone of money/information/assets.

He's not an old high school friend.  He is a scam artist.  No one is just going to give you money out of the blue.  If that were true, he could mail you a money order with no strings attached.  NEVER give out your social security number or any information concerning your identity.  Likely, the number was spoofed to look halfway legit.

Also people are not careful enough on social media and give out way too much personal information without thinking about it.  Photos and ALL information you put out there on the world wide web is there till the end of time--just a reality check.  I know of people who go on vacation and immediately start posting pics.  It's an advertisement to "come rob me while I'm gone."

Got an email associated with this number at 6am on a Saturday. It's thanking a man named Randall Martin for enrolling in online banking. It says if he didn't make the change to call the number. This email is an old one and not associated with my bank account. Pretty sure it's fraud. They're getting more deceptive by the day. I'll be calling my bank later with the number on the back of my card.

I have received numerous emails, supposedly from Truist bank, calling me Stephen, and telling me to call this number if I don't recognize the claimed changes to my online account.

Got a call from this number at 10:39pm. They left half of a message. Went and checked my account from another device and everything is fine. I called Truist and they stated that no one called me. The rep stated that this is our online banking toll free number, but no one called you. She did see any notes regarding a call. So I let her know that someone is using this number. Be careful everyone.

This is the support number for Truist online banking. They shouldn't be calling you, if they are it is likely the number is being spoofed to look like Truist. If you have an account with Truist, you should only be calling this number, not receiving calls from it.
