I also got a call for that number today (but it's certainly not the first time).  Left a voice message about some fraud detected on my income tax... Had to call them back "as soon as I get this message" (or my lawyer)... Very important... Blah blah...

On the off chance that someone comes here wondering if this is legit, here's the truth: The CRA does not do business by phone.  They never solicit information that way either.

I got it as well, two voice mails from the "Ryan Smith" with dubious accent.  Exact same message both times.  It would be funny if not for the fact that someone is going to fall for his scam.

I got this call from a person that claimed to work for "CRA", used very aggressive tone and sounded Indian, left a voice mail:  “He needed me or my lawyer to contact him immediately with respect to tax fraud suspected in my taxes”. He said: “Do not try to disregard this message”.

I received the same message on my voice mail July 14/16. One at 6:30am and again at 9:30am. I had a msg about a month ago as well. Claiming tax fraud from Surrey taxation center. Does not ask for anyone specific by name. His name (so he claims) is Ryan Smith. He sounds like an indian guy. He asks I return his call right away or else have my lawyer call. He is very hard to understand. Clearly a government employee does not work at 6:30am calling people. This needs to be stopped asap!

Big Clue. Indian accent said he was calling from Revenue of Canada. Fraud!!

Got the same message yesterday. Called this morning and wished them well with their scamming and they immediately hung up.  Called again this afternoon and asked just how many people fall for their scam and "Ryan" told me "thousands".  I don't think that word means what he thinks it means.  LOL  When I told him I was having a hard time hearing him from his call centre sweatshop in India, he hung up.

Received the same fake CRA message two times today. If it was real they would send  a registerted letter. The real CRA has your address! Do NOT be fooled by the scammers.

You are awesome,,,,I almost hope they call me back so I can mess with them too. This Ryan Smith left two threatening messages on my answering machine.....same message as everybody else.

I have just received the same call from Ryan Smith. I am happy it was not my mother in law. She is 80 and would be terrified!!

July 15, 2016:  Received legit sounding call from Officer Ryan Smith supposedly from the Canada Revenue Agency, demanding a call-back to 888-231-5516.  This was a fraudulent call - the Canada Revenue Agency will NEVER telephone you and threaten any kind of action against you.  PLEASE BE AWARE AND DON'T BECOME A VICTIM!

Fraud.  Such bs.  Poor people who don't know better that get scammed.

Same as all the others here. Guy says he is Officer Ryan Smith from Revenue Canada. He has an obvious Indian accent. He left a threatening voice mail. I had to laugh when I heard the accent and the name! If you're going to pull a scam, at least try to come up with a better name!! In his case, something along the lines of Ravinder Singh, perhaps!! HA HA.

A comical attempt to scam people without any common sense, the caller states he is Constable Ryan Smith from the CRA. With his poor use of the English language he attempts to threaten you with a tax fraud perpetrated by you. It was almost hard not to laugh as he stumbled through his spiel. The CRA would never call you like this! DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER! Do not give any personal information to this caller but as I like to have some fun and waste as much of there time as possible before laughing at them (the point where they hang up!)... I call it, scam the scammer!

I received the same call.  Very threatening and if it wasn't for the fact he said he was an officer for the revenue of Canada I might have believed it.
