- Almost Duped AgainJust got a call from a woman(unidentified) saying that I had to have all the posters, that they, the Federal labor Law Office was contracted through the federal government, that starting in 2012 all businesses, corporations and small, had to have all the posters on the walls or they will be fined, that they will send them all out to me and that it will be shipped to my location. She knew my address but asked for my name and suite because she did not know them. She said she was contacting me to make sure I was in compliance . I asked is her company was part of the federal government and she said Yes, her company is contracted through the federal government to supply the posters. I said I was never contacted before, and she said it must be because of my new address. She asked if I had a new business, I said no, she asked if I had a new phone number, I said no (I recently moved to a new building in the same area so my building number and suite number changed, that was all. She said once I had the posters I would be completely compliant and would not have to update them. Then she said if the posters change, only the changed one needed to be updated. She also told me small businesses would now have the 100% deduction and when I asked what that meant she said there is a bill in the works to get the 100% tax deduction. I said, for what, for the posters? She Said Yes,
At the end of the conversation she said the cost would be $189 and asked for my credit card, debit card or checking account numbers. I said I don't know you and since some just tried to scam me through email for credit card processing I am very leary of giving any financial information. I asked for a phone number to call into and she said that is fine and that she is not offended by the request. (Actually she seems more interested in knowing how the attempted prior scam happened,) She told me I could call 888-242-1185. I called and they answer that they are the federal labor law office and that I was recently contacted because my posters are not in compliance. (Clearly, the woman that called me had no idea if my posters were or were not in compliance.) I hung up.
I looked on the internet and saw the postings below.- Caller: Federal Labor Law Office
- Elusive Miss JI received a call this morning at my place of business from the Federal Labor Law Office. The person who was calling me, Chris (female), told me that she was calling from the Department of Labor in Washington DC as a courtesy to check if my place of business was in compliance with all the necessary federal and state labor law posters. There is a one-time fee of $189.00 for the posters, and that will cover my building "forever." The one-time fee includes shipping and handling (4-7 days via UPS), monthly updates, yearly updates and replacement posters for as long as my business is in operation. In addition, the one-time fee is now 100% tax deductible for small businesses. When I asked that she send me a proposal or an invoice with her company's detailed information and Federal Tax ID# so I could issue a purchase order, she told me that she can only accept a credit card, debit card or bank check. I pushed the issue with the purchase order and she then suggested that I speak to a separate department that handles businesses and provided me with a phone number - (888) 242-1185. I immediately Googled the number, found this site with lots of great information, and have not called that number. Although I kinda do want to call back to scream at someone for: 1) lying; 2) misrepresenting themselves as a federal agency; and 3) wasting my time. Thank you to everyone who has posted!

- SteveSame people. "Federal Labor Law Office" - caller claimed they worked for a government agency. Called the Dept. of Labor - they told me that they have the posters for free. Called them back, told her I'd take them and then when she asked for my CC number, told her I had remembered something - I don't fall for scams and she hung up.
They called me again just now and it was the same woman. She recognized my business name and hung up instantly. Funny. - AndyVery official sounding call today from "Federal Labor Law Office" wanting to speak to the owner. Owner wasnt here.... but I quizzed the caller knowing it was likely a scam: I asked for the callers name: Larry Williams, Then I asked for an ID: he paused then said #468 but I figure he made that up. Caller wouldnt wouldn't tell me the nature of the call, and said he needed to speak directly to the owner in a serious voice. As one of the posts above mentioned, written communication is the generally the official method the Fed's use to contact a business.

- SteveWI have been getting several calls per day from this number. No one answers and they hang up.
I am getting ready to report this number for call tracing. - MariI appreciate you all for posting on this site. I received the same ph call from this number stating the same exact thing you all have reported. While still on the ph, I looked up the number and this site came up. I told her I did not feel comfortable giving her my credit card info over the phone and if there was a web site where I could go and place the order instead. She said there was no website and that I needed to act now otherwise I would be fined. I ended the conversation stating that I would contact my local Labor Office and take care of things that way.
Since opening my small business (12/11), the phone calls from solicitors are endless, I don't trust any of them.
Hope this helps, it sure helped me.- Caller: Federal Labor Law Office

- Me replies to Jim| 1 replyThey are still up and running. I just got a call from them.. Lucky for me being a cheapo I didn't pay... I asked so many questions, that she figured she wasn't getting anything from me,so she hung up on me...Ugh..
- I scammed them back and reported them!Okay, I sitting here in my not-yet-open business that will employ only me... I get a phone call from 888-242-1185. I answer and they hang up. I dial them back, the phone is answered by an automated system advising me that they are the "Department of Labor Law Office". You are then given a choice of three different selections regarding posters. Press 1 for... Blah, blah, blah. I chose the one that I knew would get me to a live human being the fastest. I pressed "2" for purchase. I told them that I just received a call from this number but that I got disconnected. I asked what it was about and the woman (barely understandable) advised that I had not ordered my posters as required by the U. S. Department of Labor and was then immediately asked if I would like to go ahead and place my order. I asked a few questions in order to sound concerned that I might not be in compliance, and stated that I really didn't want to get in trouble with the U.S. Government. "I might just have to order sets for all of my locations..." I said. (At this point, I could almost hear the woman's anticipation of making a big score on this call.) I asked where their offices where located and was told "the Tampa Bay area." And then I did it. I asked her to help me out by telling me which law it was that required me to have these posters... Stunned silence. Then "Well, it's the federal law, sir." I replied "I understand that ma'am, but I mean what is the number of the law... All laws have a reference number." "Well I don't have that here, sir." she said. I then told her that I was a little disappointed that she wanted to charge me for posters that I could actually get from the Department of Labor for free. I told her that I recognized the call as a scam the minute I called, and that obtaining money under the guise of being a federal agency was not just against the law, but was against federal law and would carry federal prision time. I asked her if she was aware that she could serve time in a federal prison... She was again completely silent. I advised her that I would be calling the Federal Trade Commission and my state's Department of Consumer Affairs/Attorney General's Office. I told her she might want to think about what she was doing and that she would probably be hearing from federal investigators soon. I hung up with her and then exactly as I said I would. I have my reference numbers and will see what happens next.

- Don't CallJust received a call from this same number. I asked the person on the phone if they were "The Federal Government". She said they were affilated with the Fed and report there findings every evening. I told her I was suspicious of her, and that I would not give out any information over the phone, that she would have to send me something in the mail. She said that they had already sent me the information in the mail and that i had not responed to it. I told her to send it again. She said she would report my response to her superiors and there might be futher action taken. Turns out my suspicions were correct. I think the Federal and State Governments should do more to stop this kind of fraud. In my state you can't get on the "do not call" list if you are a business. They are pest that need swatting.
