I have been receiving phone calls from a Barbara Hill with Legal Services.  She has now been harrassing me at my place of employment for 2weeks!!  Wanting me to give her a total of $400 to aviod a "summons" to court.  I have refused to give her any information or money.  She than started harrassing my boss for personal information of me.  After myself and my boss threatened her with legal action she stopped calling my work and now has begun to call my MOTHER!! If this was a legal matter i would have already received something, instead im getting threats of "receiving a summons" and still getting phone calls.  It's a scare tactic to get me to give them money.  I am now contacting the local PD to see if they can stop this harrassment.

I have been receiving messages from Barbara Hill with legal services and am being threatened with court summons for theft if back amount for some magazine bill 6 years ago is not paid in full.  I asked on the first call for her to send me a copy of this original contract and a letter of settlement and we would talk again, it's only been a few days,I have received no such letter and have been continuing to receive phone calls with the last one today,stating that I had failed to keep "the arrangemnts" made. Would now need an attorney with a very sarcastic "good luck to you" at the end of the message. Did you find any info in helping to stop these people?

Thanks to the other two people above who posted about this number and "Barbara Hill". I just came home tonight to a message on my machine saying that I needed to contact her about a "summons". Like hell! I got on the net to reverse the number to find out where "Barton and Associates" is located and, shockingly, it does not exist. Then I came across this site and your bogs. When my blood pressure comes down I may just call her back and leave a message that she can contact my lawyer and the NYS Police, my next phone call. Luckily we are all smart enough to know that court summons come by hand from the court, not over the phone. Thanks again!

My husband came home to the same message. He called her and wanted to know what she wanted and she said that she needed his name and case number and she would get back to him. He said "no" and she said then have fun in court and hung up on him. I punched in the 888 number and I also noticed the caller Id said 716-332-1169. This is a total scam and I am calling the NYS attorney General. She called the WRONG people!

A "Jonathan Holler" contacted my mother and told her he was an investigator/ attorney for Virginia and that we had defaulted on a loan that both her and my father had co-signed for and we were going to be sued. She gave him my number but then immediately called me to ask what this could be (we have never signed any loan together). While we were talking, the supposed Jonathan Holler called me and the whole call was very fishy. He said that it was about some magazine order that I had cancelled over 6 years ago. He said the conversation was being taped for court purposes and that he could make all of the fees and court costs go away for $101.25. When I questioned the authenticity of his call he got really defensive and mean. I told him I needed to call my mother back to get payment information because he said he needed a credit or debit card that day. He REFUSED to give proof of his identity or a physical address. When I called her back I told her I thought it was a scam. She called the local authorities who agreed. He had bits of all 3 of our SS numbers. The number he gave us was 1-888-243-6568 ext. 204 He said the company that was "suing" me was E.P. Publishers. My mother called back saying she would send a cashier's check to try and get an address. He gave her this. EPS 975 Hertel Ave., Buffalo, NY 14216 Before this number he was using another number which is listed on this site and www.800notes.com with stories just like mine 1-888-264-3797 We have reported him to local, state and federal authorities. If you get a call from him or someone similar DO NOT give him any information. We have learned that there is actually a collection agency by the name of Burton & Associates at this address from the BBB in New York. They are trying to bully people into paying debt that may not even belong to the person they are bullying. The methods they are using are illegal. Contact your local authorities and the FTC (Federal Trade Commision and file a complaint. 1-877-382-4357

I have been getting calls from these clowns since early January.  I have yet to see any evidence of a bill.  In every phone call, Barbara Hill keeps bringing up a supena.  I have filed a complaint with Upstate NY BBB and the Federal Trade Commission.  If I get another phone call, I am going to sue these people.  I think we should get a class action lawsuit going to put these clowns out of business forever.

I received the same message from a Barbara Hill from "legal services" regarding a summons. I read this post BEFORE calling them back, suspecting a scam with the 888 number. I've only received the one message, but if they keep at it, I will be filing a complaint with my local (Kansas) police department.

A woman named 'Barbara Hill' called my father this afternoon, claiming that I was being issued a summons for some unpaid debt.  She refused to give him any information about the origin of the debt, or who she was representing - just that she worked for 'Legal Services.'  She gave him a case number, as well as this phone number.  I immediately typed it into Google, and this list of complaints was the first hit.  We're reporting the number to the police.

"Barbra Hill" from Legal Services called to talk to my wife about a summons to appear in court. She left a message stating that she needs a call back immediately and left a case number. This just did not seem right, after having worked for a law firm that issued summons on a regular basis, there were never any phone calls prior to the subject being served. I will be reporting this to the local and state authorities.

Just got a call from that "Barbara Hill", she left a case number and told me my mom was going to be brought to court if i couldn't pay off the debt of a magazine subscription - My mom's only subscribed to one magazine, and she's up to date on payments. She tried to get my debit card information and got really rude when i told her i don't feel comfortable giving it out over the phone {HA. like i would anyways =P}

Sounds just like the one I got today only my mother passed away 5 years ago she has the nerve I called her and gave the b........... a piece of my mind

I received several calls from a Carol Kline several months ago from the number 888-243-6569.  She was very rude and pushy.  The same story about a magazine subscription.  I contacted an attorney who said that she was breaking the law. I informed her when she called my place of employment that I no longer wanted to receive any calls from her.  I asked in the beginning for the original copy of an order.  I never got it.  I told her that was the only communication I wanted from her.  And if I received any other I would contact law enforcement.  Now today my mother gets a call from a Barbara Hill saying she has a summons for court for me.  I call her back and she says she is turning it in for fraud and good luck.  THese people are incredible....

I received a call from a Barbara Hill regarding a past due on some magazines that I had ordered 5 years ago, I must admit she scared the crap out of me with the threatened summons, I gave in and gave her my account number and she charged me double what she was supposed to.  I am now disputing this with my bank. Not sure what will happen but I guess I had to learn the hard way.  Dont know what to do or if I will get my money back.

cancel card or alert bank ASAP!!! print out this info here and use it! i would dispute charges too!! you basically were strong armed for money! also no one has mentioned the better business bureau. sometimes local news can help! she hasnt called me but i feel like calling her and playing her game just to harrass her! i like to make ppl angry. im quite good at it! and i love using expletives too!! i hope you get your cash back! you should get punitive damages too. i feel sorry for the seniors who dont know and fork over lord knows how much.  good luck!

off the hill subject... this will freak you out!.. the last time bush ran for president he came here to our local arena. i failed to get tickets to see kerry, who i wanted to see. so i decided to try to get tickets. my sister a democrat to the core.. rally parties, door to door, the whole 9. tells me they wont give me tickets, ill have to sign a waiver yadda yadda. got tickets, just wanted name and address,prob phone too but i couldnt remember. no voter reg card or ID... hmm i was taking the kids. i felt hey he is the pres and its something to see him. oh it was general admission too, letting ppl come and go. so i went to the floor. ok blah blah. it was cool to see him! week later, dinnertime!! phone rings, i know these [***] right from jump as they start mumbling and garbling my last name. btw its easy to say if ya knew how to read!!! i said im sorry you have the wrong number. real snotty like she says... well this is blah blah with the republican national committee and we are calling to recover the campaign contribution she promised!!!!! well i nearly dropped but kept my cool and said well lady you got the wrong number and good luck with that! and slammed up the phone. i was speechless. phone rings back a second later and now she is pissed (LOL) i let machine get it.. ready for this one..... she says now on machine real nasty.. this is blah with the rep nat comm and we are trying to get the contrib, that is owed to our pres, bush. we know you were at the rally at blah arena in city and state on such n such date!!! secret service has records of all the vehicles that were parked in the
lot and we have your info...and we will take the neccessary action to get the promised campaign contrib.click.. i thought holy [***] the republicans are gonna get me..now im looking out for the black cars to come screeching up... i never ever ever promised a dime, or was i asked at anytime. talk about paranoid.. out walking the dog and in the stores  lol  i took it to our local news and contacted the democratic national committee.. they FREAKED!! news guy didnt get far as the rnc dont like to talk to press so i think the dnc took care of them cause the never called again. i did call police to report and the usual steps. oh we dont have caller id and couldnt *69 cause calls came in afterwards while i was closing drapes and outting the lights! so when mcain came here i stayed in the coalroom in the basement!! sorry for length   good luck

Yes this Barbara has been calling my mother's house for me, eventhough I havent lived there since I was 19 (now 28).  I just called her back and she said she had to look for my file and would call me back and asked for my number.  I gave it to her, and if she doesnt call back I will call and find out what is so frickin urgent.  My Mom told me she made numerous threatening messages saying I would need an attorney, I have a summons and blah blah..   Little does this hack of a business lady know, that my MOM works for the MN state Bar Association and has for 25 years, I also have 3 (2 practicing) attorneys in my immediate family.  We'll see what happens.....

'Barbra Hill' with legal services refereing to a specific case number, called my office phone yesterday (day 1) and my cell today (day 2).  It didn't sound right, so I started a web search and found this.

It is odd b/c those two numbers are not connected easily.

This Barbara Hill must be the hardest working woman in the western world, based on reading here.  Same story as most here, legal summons, case number, Barbara Hill with Legal Services at 888-243-6569.  I knew court summons didn't get handed out that way so...Google is your friend.

I'll be reporting this to the authorities ASAP.

Have received two calls so far and same story as above. Barbara Hill (very smug and smart alec voice) like on the other calls, claims my husband ordered magazines and didn't pay for them. She even claims he worked as a vet tech for some vet we've never even heard of!! My husband hasn't been able to work for 30 years due to a disability! Needless to say....I'm ignoring and definitely not returning the call!! She needs to get a life and stop bullying people.

The exact same thing happened to me today.  These people are as Dave Ramsey likes to say Bottom Feeders.  Do not allow them to scare you into doing something.  Send me a subpena through the phone please.  

I will not fall for their scare tatics and you should not either.
